Cracked egg saved?

Hi. This is my first time posting, we have a broody hen who has collected 18 eggs to sit on. She has been on them for 2 weeks now, yesterday there was a slight crack in 1 egg and today we found that she has put another Shell over the top of the crack.
The cracked egg was brown but she has patched it with the white one, is this normal because I have never seen it before

No. Chickens do not do that. If they have an egg that won't hatch, they eat it or kick it out

Just a fluke @Jo474 .
Already hatched(or eaten) egg shell just ended up around the other egg.
I'd remove the empty shell...and any cracked egg.
2 weeks is too early for anything to be hatching, unless you got your day count wrong.
About 18 days is the earliest to expect hatching.

Was she given those eggs all on the same day, or did they continue to accumulate after she started setting?
