Cracked Eggs

My broody hen has cracked one of the eggs she is sitting on. She has not broken the membrane yet. It is around day 19 of incubation. What should I do? She has dumped her water and gotten the wood shaving wet.

Pull the egg and cover the crack with nail polish. Not too thickly or it will take too long to dry.

Its more than a crack. The shell is gone and the membrane is exposed. Any other suggestions? When I looked at it this morning, I could see the chick and it was moving a little.

How about cutting a circle of plastic wrap and gluing that over the hole with nail polish.

Just went to get the egg to try it. It had hatched and was dead. Thanks for trying to help.

Bummer. Sorry.
I have 3 broody hens now. One of the nests hatched this morning and I found a dead chick in the nest. It happens. Survival of the fittest.

She has 6 more to hatch. Hopefully I have better luck with them. Thanks again for the help.
