There's not really a way to tell if they're alive other than sitting there with the candler until you see it move.

Then hold the egg to your ear and listen for faint clicking or peeping. At least that will establish if they've internally pipped

You guys are killn me. You still don't get it. I'm talking about after I open it; is there a way to tell whether it had died in the shell or if I opened one that was still alive.

Simple-observe for movement under the membrane. As a final check - moisten the membrane with boiled cooled water using a Q-tip. This will make the membrance more transparent and if you see active blood vessels then its alive. Obviously it has'nt internally pipped

hi its nearly day 19 and my italian quail eggs have been rocking for 2 days, but they still havent started to pip , can anyone help me out please coz its my first time with quails .AND IM STARTING TO GET WORRIED about them .

Today find out, one off eggs was fall out of nest, about 35 cm high and cracked. My duck incubate eggs, this one was chicken egg. It could be out of nest around 2-3 hours.
Today is day 19.
The egg was broken, i hold it up, tryin to see moving, but cant, so i bit opened it to se how it looks, there was puffy chick, with egg yolk attached, saw it face moving.. :/
I probably needed just to put broken egg under duck.. But now I think its not good to do that? :/ if the '''white shield'' is rip up?
