Craigslist image thieves!

I'm so glad someone started this post. I was looking on louisville, ky craigslist one day at an ad for cochins. To my surprise, the pictures listed were MINE from my website! I contacted the person that posted it and told them I would turn them into craigslist. They stated they couldn't believe I would get so mad for them using my pictures. Of course I was mad. They were using my pictures and trying to sell eggs/chicks as their own. Anyone who didn't know would think those pictures were the parents of the stock they were buying! So dishonest!

Oh, and the best part, they are now a member of BYC! I know who they are, but am trying to just let it go and not ruin their reputation on here.

It's nice when you have a place like this and are able to look out for eachother.

I remember another thread not long ago about coops and the member coops being used in the ads of a company.

Heck if they want them that bad, buy them.

I answered an add once about Rotti pups. Was helping a friend find one since she couldn't afford mine. We show up at the breeders and no way was any one of those pups from the ad. She almost bought one anyway, but I got her out of there. I told her if the picture was a lie, how much of what they told her was a lie?

Don't know where they got the pic of that pup, but I was even interested in findng out more. LOL

People have no ethics these days I swear.

I feel a little stupid for asking this, but how can someone steal a photo from here, we have to use our upload link to post them here. I've not tried to snag a pic from here, just wondering. I don't want any of my chicks pics used for anyone else's sales either.

Sorry, now I feel really stupid, they can right click as Save as...

I wonder how often this happens. Not long ago I noticed that a picture of BC Marans for sale on the Little Rock Craigslist looked awfully familiar. It was because they belonged to ruth! Granted, the add stated that the birds pictured were not their actual birds but they hadn't bothered to ask her permission and one wonders what their birds actually looked like if they were ashamed to post actual pictures!

Its deceptive, think of it this way. Say you have a picture of your chicken on your website and I take it and turn around and say Im selling a chicken, maby I am selling a chicken, but buy showing YOURS and NOT saying that it is not the chicken for sale I am claiming that YOUR chicken (by the pic I took and used) is MY chicken that im selling.

Its just dis-honost and lazy, how hard would it be for them to post a pic of the actuall Chicken/eggs that are for sale?

Again, I can see some one posting a pic of some one elses chicken and saying "This is NOT my chicken but she looks alot like this one..." in which case they are not claiming that as a representation of the actuall chicken but an example of what he/she may look like. And it is polite to ask the owner of the pic if they wouldnt mind you using there picture.

Not tryingto be rude, hope I didnt come off that way (some times I do and dont meen too) so I help that helps

And really, unless the picture is copywrited then I dont think that you can claim the picture stolen but you CAN contact the place they are posting on and let them know that some one is trying to pull a fast one on the public.

Except this is still copyright infringement and illegal. It's not just polite to ask if you can use someone's picture, it is the law! Otherwise it is just plain theft. The person who takes the picture owns the rights to their images and is the only person who can grant permission to use it, no matter where they may have posted them. One DOES NOT have to register their images to retain copyright. Copyright is granted to the maker at creation.

This is one of the reasons that, although I am a professional photographer, I do not post as many photos here as I would like to. I depend upon photography for income and not only can images be stolen and used, by the unethical as well as those who may be ignorant of the law, but also the value of those images are much less if I post them than if they are"fresh," so to speak. If I ever sell any of the images I post here to a stock agency, they will not be as valuable.

Unfortunately, it happens a lot more than you think.

Ok I did not know that. I have never dealt with this issue much because I have always used my own photos.

If I cannot take a picture of the actuall "thing" im selling then I dont post any pictures because I personally would rather have a a REAL picture of what it is im selling or posting about. Which I believe is the way it should be.

And I do believe it happens alot. I know a friend whos brother and himself have matching tattoos, and the other day he sent me a link to a google site that had a picture of his tattoo that he posted on his facebook that some one had used on there site that had a bunch of tattoo pictures. And I have seen other places where people have also done this. So I believe you when you say it happens alot. I know I would be upset if I cought some one else using my pictures. I just wasnt familure with the copyright laws.

I wouldn't expect everyone to be an expert on copyright law.

Most people who are stealing photos are not just unaware of copyright law, they just don't care.
