Oh, and I am going to say he looks like a Maran roo - but I could be wrong, too.

Hello Aly!!!
I'm open to anyone's opinions or suggestions!!!! Thanks so much for yours!!! He very well could be a Blue Marans roo. I'm pretty much still a novice at raising chickens...and to me some of the roos(and hens) look an awful lot alike (smile). I just don't want to get it wrong. Any Marans people out there??!! Either way I really love all my roos......all 25 are sweet, all are pets. Thanks!!!
Kathy

I got my 1st egg today!!!! From my original batch that were hatched Feb 15thish or so (I bought at the feedstore, didnt hatch myself). I didnt expect an egg till July!!

Its small (was going to take pic but camera died. Will get pic later) like bant. cochin size (and there are 2 bant. cochins in there). But everything I read says pullet eggs are small?? I have no idea which it came from.

Sorry, I know this is wrong thread, but I am egggggggggsited!! hehe

Hello!!!!
Congrats on your first egg!!! I remember when my ducks laid their first egg over 8 years ago......it was definitely a "big deal" to me (smile). If it's really small it's most likely a banty egg.......but I hear that LF pullet eggs can be small when they just start to lay.

I'm thinking Maran too. But I'm basically a novice on them too. I see too many similarities between too many breeds. Can't hardly tell my half grown Barnvelders from a couple Partridge Rocks that got thrown in.

Maybe you can post the picture here on the Maran thread and get help: https://www.backyardchickens.com/forum/viewtopic.php?id=77436

Hello BeccaOH!!!
Thanks so much for your input....it's truly appreciated!!! What a dummy I was last year....I thought I'd be able to tell the different breeds as they matured(yea..right!! It only seemed to get harder). As they hatched I should have somehow banded them(this year I'm using those latex leg bands to do so).
Thanks for the link to the Marans thread!!! I should have known to look there!!! I'm new at this stuff in general. I'll see if they also have an Orpington forum.......just have to figure out how to find it.
Thanks Again!!!
Kathy

Hello!!! My guess is that it's either a BO egg or a banty Cochin egg. Being fairly new to chickens, it's hard for me to tell. Keep an eye on those 2 breeds. It seems a bit early for the other breeds you have to be laying yet.

Offer 8+ Lemon Blue Project Cochin hatching eggs. starting Bid $10 Shipping $14

You may hatch Lemon Blue, Blue and Splash from these eggs. About 6 weeks ago we switched up some of our birds and they have been producing majority of Lemon Blue Coloring..... Our birds are heavily feathered with the gentle giant temperament that Cochins are suppose to have. As of right now we are on our 2nd generation of Lemon Blues and hoping to get to the point where they always breed true. Not there yet

. I have raised the shipping price just a bit because I am adding cool packs like I did last year so that it helps to prevent them from getting hot. I make sure not to put the cool packs to close to the eggs so that it will not cause them damage.
