The husband finally agreed to let me do heritage meat birds, so this is our modest flock (lost a few to cocci) of Barbezieux:

We don't shy away from naming meaties, so this flock includes Big Chungus (big roo), Huckleberry (lil roo), Queenie, Blackberry and Chuck/Charlotte (Mr. insists it's a roo but I beg to differ).

We also brought on 3 mosaics because we heard great things about them and, uhm, it's all true. They are the most personable, chill birds we've had.

Lily is my husbands favorite, but we also hold Star and Apollo in high regards.

And our big girls in their (slightly) younger days:

L to R - Bluebell the Andalusian, Daisy the Marans mix, Clover the Barnevelder and Poppy the Buff Orp.

Chickens are all good birds! Chicken tending is a good hobby/lifestyle. Viva la chicken peeps!

Let's see....
I've got 78 chickens in total currently. I have a mix of breeds: ISA Browns, Easter Eggers, Barred Rocks, Rhode Island Reds, a Buff Orpington, Sapphire Gems, a Calico Princess, Silver Laced Wyandottes, Golden Laced Wyandottes, Salmon Faverolles, and Speckled Sussex. I'll share some pictures!

Bug, my olive egger (BCMxAmerucana) pullet started singing her egg song yesterday!

And Goose, my standard cochin started singing today!

I figured since I was so eggsited ( that's right I said it!) and although my man loves and supports my chicken craziness, he doesn't share my enthusiasm for each new milestone... so as soon as I saw this thread, I thought this is the PERFECT place to share my happiness! I can't wait to see those first eggs!

(Both pics were taken about a month ago, so both girls are considerably redder in the face now!)
