Crazy weird double egg.

It is supposed to be the aromatic oils in cedar shavings that are hard on a chicken's lungs---the same thing that gives that nice scent and helps moth-proof closets. I'm glad to hear your birds were not adversely affected by the shavings, Schultz. At least they all probably had nicely-scented hineys!

Congratulations! May your eggs all be normal and with nice, hard shells from here on out. My leghorn's first eggs were soft-shelled also & she laid 2 at once--one with a soft, rubbery/papery shell and the other with no shell at all. It fell in the bottom of the run. She now lays me a beautiful, perfect, pearly white egg every day between 9 a.m. and 1 p.m.

I just saw the same thing a few days ago, although it was in my kitchen sink because my chicken couldn't get it (them) out and was getting pretty distressed. After a 15 min warm bath - out came those two joined eggs with soft shells. I thought it fortunate that she didn't lay for a couple days after and when she did - a HUGE double yolker! Poor girl - I am really feeling empathy pain for her. She's only been laying about two weeks and all other eggs have been just fine. I think sometimes it just takes a little time to get everything timed just right. Pretty scary though! Makes it hard not to worry.
