Aw that sucks!! Mine don’t escape but then again I do have my pen covered. I think they escaped once the first year I had them when someone mowed too close to the pen and scared them.I like Easter Eggers too, but I have not had good luck keeping them alive. Always escaping, but unlike the Brabanters, they don't remember how to get back in. They just aren't as smart.
I love my bantam cochins too. I only have one left, and she is brooding babies. They're incredible mothers. Incredibly sweet, and gentle birds
Calls are my favorite things ever, but they're still ducks. If you are set up for ducks, they are amazing. If not, they're horrible! Butters is a hilarious pet. I'd not trade him for anything. View attachment 2146334

Anyway, I find mine are very aware when out free ranging which is nice. One especially is super keen on hawks and will sound the alarm or just the other day she was coming over to me and ran back under cover when she saw one.
So in some ways, she’s very smart but in other ways, she is not. She does get stuck in the run frequently with wide open doors so

Not the brightest bulbs but aware at least. My Orpingtons are clueless idiots which is why I’ve lost two of them

I did just recently lose one of Easter Eggers though for the first time

I can’t wait till I get some broodies!!! I find it so adorable.

The Cochins seem amazing!! So far they’re pretty chill.

And that makes sense!!! Definitely not set up atm which is the main deterrent. That and I just would prefer to focus on my chickens and other projects atm. But then do seem like neat animals.

Butters is so cute!!!
