Aw that sucks!! Mine don’t escape but then again I do have my pen covered. I think they escaped once the first year I had them when someone mowed too close to the pen and scared them.
first time they’d ever heard a lawnmower. After that, I’ve covered it. Plus we have hawks.Anyway, I find mine are very aware when out free ranging which is nice. One especially is super keen on hawks and will sound the alarm or just the other day she was coming over to me and ran back under cover when she saw one.
So in some ways, she’s very smart but in other ways, she is not. She does get stuck in the run frequently with wide open doors so

The Cochins seem amazing!! So far they’re pretty chill.
And that makes sense!!! Definitely not set up atm which is the main deterrent. That and I just would prefer to focus on my chickens and other projects atm. But then do seem like neat animals.
