Cream Legbar Hybrid Thread

Quote: I did, but it just confused me because I have gold Duckwing Sulmtaler chicks in the brooder right now. The females have a black dot on their head. So how do you figure out which sex is going to get the dot? I could have sworn that the boy always gets the dot.

I can't wait to try the Cemani x CCL. The Cemani roo I want to use is "busy" right now with another Cemani pullet.

Amazing... Edit.. genetically related post... now this Further proves that e+/eb birds do look like pure e+/e+ or atleast close to pure... I will guess that these cross where they were chicks looked like chipmunk stripped chicks(like CCL) instead of the Penedesenca chicks right?... now to the cool part... you can have Cream Penedesencas that lay Olive eggs if you do a F1xF1 and hatch about 50 eggs...Rons cross of a crele penedesenca too and crele penedesenca x cream legbar cross looks like there where brown chicks and some chipmunk if he chimes in maybe he can post a pic

Quote: Not sure as they all came as chicks from GFF. At first I thought they were boys but then they started to feather out and they have the wheaten color of the girls and the ones without the dots on the head clearly are the black color. GFF confirmed that it was a sex linked trait on the Gold Duckwings. But it is just back luck then. 8 boys, 4 girls in the group.

They were not a cross as they are pure blood. Just would like the info for future when I do the Cemani x CCL cross.

Here are a few more photos of the Cream Legbar X Crele Penedesenca crosses. I'd say 50% hatch with Crests. Most will hatch with white legs like their Pene. mommies.

Sorry, I cannot find my chick photos. The chicks typically hatch with the CL chipmunk markings, but some are darker brown like the Crele Pene. The males usually have well marked white head spots.

I think Ron calls this cross Amelias, he has a batch that just hatched. I like this cross they are very pretty, and the chicks are so adorable. A good cross for olive eggs. I believe the F1 look chipmunk like the CLs. And yes Rons F2s are the ones that are some chipmunk pattern and some brown, I believe he took this F1 cross and crossed it back to a Penedesenca rooster for the F2. If I am remembering correctly.

Yes, we have been calling this cross Amelias which is kind of a sweet story. I gave Ron and several other people eggs last year when I first launched the project.

The name Amelia came about when I accidentally sold what I thought was a Cream Legbar pullet to a customer and it turned out to be a Crele Pene X Cream Legbar cross. I have since learned not to hatch the purebred Cream Legbars and CCL X Penedesencas together because they can be very difficult to tell apart, especially the ones that hatch with yellow legs.

Long story short, this customer named that bird Amelia because she was an excellent flyer. Sadly, Amelia was taken by a predator and somehow, I think in her memory, we all started calling the Cream Legbar X Crele Penedesenca Crosses Amelias.

Yes he hatched his rooster from my eggs I believe and his hens from Deann
