Cream Legbar Hybrid Thread

Here is a head shot of my IceCream Bar cockerel -- he's blue-- he really looks neat IMO

He is a nice sturdy little guy

It surprises me that he has so much barring. I think perhaps some Isbar females do have a hidden barring gene... only shows barring in the feathers close to the body though....His sister from that cross CL X Isbar hen is less flashy -- but very friendly and curious

Female Icecream bar -- I'm surprised that not more photos of this x are put up.
The cockerel has grown up to be very handsome!

I had a Cream Legbar pair for a year which I really enjoyed until I had to remove my Cream Legbar Ro only because of space issues. As I'm now adding to my pen space I am thinking about getting a Rhodebar Ro instead of a Cream Legbar to experiment cross breeding with while still maintain the auto sexing trait.
Any thoughts here regarding the similarities and differences between these two breeds in regards to crossing with other breeds?

Hi, I very much intended on hatching only CCL eggs (I have 2 CCL roosters, 30 hens of various breeds, 5 are CCL's), however, I absolutely could not tell some of my Easter Egger eggs from the CCL's and inadvertantly hatched out 2 crosses, which I call Easter bars. They are 4.5 months old and I think they are pretty, plus I like their personality. They autosexed perfectly, and looked exactly like a CCL pullet the day they hatched, but over a short span of time, I noticed the beards....and knew I had hybrids.

Beautiful rooster, what other breed is he besides CCL, Isbar? I really love his coloring and barring!

It looks like he has a really nice straight comb as well.
Love your Easter Bars - especially the second one - it is so unusual.

Yep, it is CL rooster X Isbar hen - and I had at that time 2 blues and 1 splash in lay. I don't know which hen is his mom. We were calling them Ice Cream Bars-- I have a friend selling a LOT of Ice Cream Bar eggs on ebay - so there is interest. I like the combs on my Isbar roosters much better than the ones on the Cream Legbars. His is about 1/2 way between CL and Isbar. Both these hybrids also had crests -- so that is what 1-cresting gene produces.

Minnie - your hens are beautiful. My favorite rooster was an "Easter bar". When it came time to sell his chicks I couldn't part with any of them. I gave one rooster to my neighbor and kept the other 11 chicks!!!

How is your Bielefelder x CL turn out? I have CL, but dissappoint the bird size. I like dual purpose breed that calm, quiet, lay well, large egg, and autosexing. Since I don't have any Bielefelder female, so my plan is cross with CL in a next few months. I have neighbor next door, which could use a quiet rooster and hen. It is hard to tell how quiet the Bielefelder rooster is right now as he will be mature in couple months.

If it's me I only breed cream Legbars, Isbars and Ice Cream Bars. :O)

If I cross a legbar roo and a barred rock hen, will I get a chick that lays green eggs? I had just collected eggs and had room in my incubator for one more. So I grabbed my barred rocks.
