Cream Legbar Working Group: Standard of Perfection

Legbar pullet #1

Legbar pullet #2

Cockerel #1

Cockerel #2

Now for my question. Which cockerel is the Bielefelder and which is the Cream Legbar?

seeing how Bielfelder and Welsummer male chicks look different from Legbars, I would say the Dark ones are Legbars with about 100% Certainty
I am sorry but I don't understand why you are mentioning Welsummers? The top two chicks are Legbar pullets. You believe the dark cockerel in the bottom 2 photos is my Legbar cockerel correct?

sorry I meant Welbars.... and Yes the bottom 2 males are Legbar males... out of ALL of the Autosexing Breeds out there including the Welbar, Rhodebar, Hampbars the Cream Legbars have that Distinctive dark chick down color(I know some are very pale too)

I hope this is a test and you know the answer! I am going to go with Chick #1 as the Cream Legbar and the darker of the 2 being the Bielfelder!

On a side note, the red enhanced Crele coloration is starting to be called Legbar coloration!

-On the Feathersite, the Bielfelder notes refer to the breed as being Legbar Colored: "The birds are recognised only in the Legbar color." http://www.feathersite.com/Poultry/CGA/Biele/BRKBiele.html
- I have seen this term used before for enhanced Crele English Orpingtons: https://www.backyardchickens.com/t/616472/picture-of-my-legbar-orpington-for-rockinpaints

I had only thought it was the Orps, but now I see it is used for the Bielfelder. Has anyone else seen other breeds use the term 'Legbar' as a color descriptor?

No this is not a test. I really don't know who is who. The girls were easy to distinguish the Legbars from the Bielefelders. It is the Cockerels I am unsure of. These are chicks that were shipped in the same box shipping costs being what they are. They won't look the same when they mature so it will work out in the end. I am just hoping to not have to wait that long.

From what I've heard you'll know as soon as they start eating and sizing up. The Bielefelders will take off like rockets in size and in food consumption.

That is one of the ways the pullets were easy to tell apart. The Bielfelders are much larger. Also one of the Legbars already looks like she is determined to have quite a crest.

Well, you will for sure have to keep us posted! Hopefully the CL boy is crested and you will start to see that come in in a few weeks.

The reason for my guess: Chick #1 has to my eye slightly greenish legs and I have seen this hue in several of the newly hatched CL chicks, the photo of the Bielfelder chick on the GFF website also has a similar darker greyish hue to yourChick #2, and the two CL girls have green leg bands and Cockerel #1 also has a green leg band making me wonder if they put that color band on every chick from that tray in the hatcher.

What color leg bands did Bielfelder pullets wear?

PS: I forgot to add: great chick photos--I have such a hard time getting good photos of chicks and tip my hat to all those folks that have the right touch. So well done!

PPS: Congrats on your new chicks!

They did not put the leg bands on. I had first thought the lighter one was the Legbar cockerel and so chose that color for him. Now I am not so sure I assessed them correctly day one. So the band color means nothing. Thanks for the congratulations. Very excited to see how they all turn out and who we like best. I have gotten breeds before thinking I was going to love them to find out later they weren't to my liking. The Legbars were at the very top of the list for me so I hope we love them as much as I think we will.
