Also, if you don’t mind me asking does anyone know what the difference between sex link and autosexing is?
Simplified in different words... :p

Auto sexing.... a single (same) breed when bred to itself that produces chicks which can be gender identified by feather pattern at hatch and ALL offspring will have the SAME characteristics as their parents and their offspring will have the same characteristics their grandhen and grandroo and so on down the line. Called breeding TRUE.

Sex link... two certain DIFFERENT breeds (there are multiple crosses) that when bred to each other will produce a gender identifiable chick at hatch, again according to feather pattern/color. The sex LINKED hybrid chicks will not be the same as either parents' breed and if bred to each other will not have the same characteristic... but will be crossbreed and none of the future generations will be gender identifiable at hatch.

Even though I know the difference, sometimes it easy to forget or get my wires crossed and mix the two words up in a discussion... but the good folks of BYC are almost always gracious (and keen) enough to notice and point out the difference. :thumbsup

Now many of our "pure" breeds do come from different crossing as mentioned... but back when people started that breed... they used those crosses and worked to SET characteristics they desired that will breed true... time and time again... when it breeds true to itself more than 50% of the time... then it can be considered a BREED. This is at least my current understanding. :pop

Excellent post!
I would just add that sex-links *can* also be the same breed, for example chocolate or barred birds can be selectively bred to other colored members of their same breed to produce pure bred chicks that can be visually sexed at hatch. They are still considered sex linked, not auto sexed.
