Cream Legbars

Wow, such a mix of colors. Do their chick colors indicate what they will look like when they're grown?

The irony here is that the males all grew up looking extremely similar. If I hadn't banded them, you can't tell them apart. The darkest ones have a bit better definition and a little more chestnut in the plumage.

I was afraid of that, basically you have to grow them out to choose which ones to keep for breeding. I think these 2 take after their moms, who were grayish when young.

These color variations are from there being multiple wild type e-loci primary color patterns in the Cream Legbar breed. The different patters create different down color but they all look about the same as adults.

I did a photo comparisons of Cream Legbar cockerels in 2012. It is posted HERE. They started very different but all came out about the same.

Do you think the one on the bottom left can be a pullet?

I think I'm seeing 5 legbars there, and a something else on the top. The three on the right look male, and that one on the left, to me, looks female because of the striping, 'eyeshadow', the brown versus grey, and lack of headspot, despite the lack of head markings usual to a pullet.

You're doing better than me, I was not sure they were legbars,. 2 of them almost look like Sussex, especially the bottom left.

If that is a legbar, it could be a pullet because of eye shadow and coloring. But I would not bet my life on it being a girl or a legbar.
Sorry...

The white chick is a silkie. The other five are Legbars out of my own eggs. Once they fluffed up, I was confused about that one on the bottom left. I hope it's a girl, just no or very faint head markings. No white spot. It's a mystery

A white spot is not needed, I would have thought the chipmunk stripes would be more prominent. The eye shadow says girls.

Do you know what line you have? They look too red to me, but that could be the camera or my putor too,
