Cream Legbars

Kent in san angelo tx.
Hi Kent,
Just googled your location - you are way out there! -- The Cream Legbar Club president lives about 2-hours and 46 minutes away from you and sells fertile hatching eggs. There are other folks in Texas who may have hatching eggs.

H and H Poultry may be your best bet for started Cream Legbars. April Howington, of H & H Poultry was selling older (like 4-6 weeks) chicks at the Fancy Feathers 4-H event in San Marcos, on the 13 of April.... So your quest certainly is achievable.

There may be others that aren't jumping to mind right now. I guess part of the question may be are you and your future trio - up for a road trip? Good luck, hope that you get exactly what you are looking for.

Definitely, will drive to get them with in reason lol. I wanted copper marans and met someone and 1 1/2 hr away for a rooster and 6 eggs plus other breeds. I've also purchased a load of there eggs to incubate. so yeah i feel a road trip coming soon lol. thank you so much. Kent

Good luck! I am actually not in your state but nearby in Oklahoma. I second the recommendations to contact Curtis (garydean26 on BYC) or April Howerton. We are just getting the Club Membership Directory started, there is 1 person listed in Texas but I don't know if they have stock for sale..

Can someone help me sex this Cream Legbar? He/she is about 7 weeks old in the photos (they are all 7 weeks old). I got these chicks direct from Greenfire Farm, and this one had a slight blur of a dot on her head. She has feathered out like the cockerels, but is the size of the other pullet and has a crest. Her comb is similar to the pullet (in last photo).

Thoughts? I am going to try to sell the extra cockerels, but would like to keep this seemingly androgynous one if it is indeed a she.

As far as hatching shipped eggs, it really is a difficult thing. Check the Hatching 101 article in the Learning Center, it has some helpful suggestions for improving your hatch with shipped eggs.
Seconding this. We had disasterous results with shipped eggs before we read a lot of into on here about how to treat them differently. Now we are getting decent hatches (with shipped eggs, I consider 1/3 hatch decent and 1/2 hatch good).

Male for sure. The only female I see is the last photo.
Thanks! I'm not up on all the genetics and these CLs will eventually be my first attempt at breeding (we have a children's science project and incubator purchase in mind, haha). My other CL cockerels (who are the same age, but way bigger) aren't showing this crest. Will this runt crested cockerel be more likely to produce crested offspring? I'd like to breed for the crest eventually ...

Wait to decide on whether or not they will have a crest until they get older. If your female is crested, I would keep the best male regardless of crest, it seems fairly dominant and pretty easy to breed back in.
