Cream Legbars

Gold legbars have no crest and lay white eggs. They were not a part of the cream legbar experiment, but are autosexing. They don't have the "Chilean hen" influence. He's looking because he has one of the last flocks in England and he chanced across my website.
I do have golden crele legbars, however that's not what he is looking for, sadly.
So they are crele, just not in name. I understand what you are asking for now. I have never heard of any flocks in the US and it would be rather hard to breed out those traits from your gold crele flock. I think he might have to revert to the "original recipe" (apologies to the KFC reference amongst chicken people, lol).
I re-created Welbars here in the US and it took several years, but my birds lay much darker eggs than the pics I've seen of UK Welbar eggs, so it was worth the effort. Re-creating gold legbars would be just as straightforward. The process is well documented and easier than importing from the US anyway. Getting the cream, crest and blue eggs would be tough, but he wants none of that anyway. If he wants advice about how to do this, I would be happy to help him.

There used to be Gold Legbars in the USA. I worked with Gold Legbars before any of the English Cream Legbars were imported into the USA. My Gold Legbars were created by April Howington at H&H Poultry. She got information from a breeder in the UK on how to carry out the crosses with the Singl Combed Large Fowl Light Brown Leghorns and Barred Plymouth Rocks to create Autosexing Legbars. She started with her Champion Heritage Plymouth Rocks and Brown Leghorns around 2002. When the imported Cream Legbars were made available in 2011 I started to work with them because my plan with the Gold Legbars was to introduce the blue eggs into the Gold Legbar line and attempt to split the pea comb from the blue eggs to create a single combed blue egg laying gold Legbar. If I was successful at that I might have introduced a crest or cream plumage next. It was just a breeding project for me to learn about chickens.

Below is a Gold Legbar Pullet for the US line from H&H Poultry. I don't know if any of this line still exists. Everyone, including April, that I knew who were working with them really wanted cream Legbars and switch to them when the imported stock was available.

Poor guy said he just hoped to cut some time off reestablishing them. It will take him 3 years, not the worst, but doable and he was hoping to track down some originals. Nice feller, though! Yes, it would be much harder to redo the cream legbars than gold legbars, as gold legbars are barred rock and brown leghorn leghorn with no mystery mutt from Chile.
I just felt bad I couldn't help him!

He seemed to be willing to pay to import from the US. It's too bad.

Very interesting post and picture. That hen looks a whole lot like the Welbars I created, I guess because the genes related to color are so similar between the Partridge Welsummers and the Brown Leghorns. Here is an old pic of one of my earliest "pure" Welbars (among the first that were fully autosexing).

Cool.. that looks like a legbar I would have to invite to skinny chicken dinner day..

Since the thread is moving again, I'll announce that I'm setting my first batch of the season on Friday. Here's hoping for good luck! Hey Gary, I shot the gentleman a text to contact H and H. If she might have an idea of where some might be, that could save him a lot of time. Apparently gold legbars are on the brink as a breed everywhere! Is there much difference between gold legbars and golden crele leghorns? They look nearly identical, perhaps the legbars being slightly bigger...

I'm still keeping an eye out for AB line cockerels, but DH is pretty adamant about not purchasing any new poultry this year:hit
Still, there's a chance that I can scrape together what I need to get several in. I'd want at least 2 if possible, a backup is always necessary! C line would be ok too, although these are pure AB line for now.

Do you have any whites?

Do you have any whites?
No. Whites came out of c line as far as I'm aware, I've had no white come out of this flock. Ironically, I did have recessive white turn up in my black silver marans flock, so I'm developing a group of white marans.

That isn't to say I wouldn't use white legbars, could be fun to incorporate them and then have a surprise game of will she won't she carry the white? For f2 that is
