Cream Legbars

Thanks for the insights HaplessRunner and 1MuttsFan........

What I want is a balanced bird...not constant broody like a silky - and not incapable of being a broody.

BTW -- my golden comet went broody -- so using her as a theoretical human-selected result of genetic manipulation - I would think that chickens, being chickens, would revert slowly over generations to wild-types and that they would probably survive in some fashion...not the extreme birds - but the general birds. The production layers would have a lot of shots at passing along genetics to chicks because they lay so many eggs. JMO.

oh i do hope so shes very flighty at the minute doesnt really like being handled do they get better with age or are they flighty birds shes with 2 polish chicks the same age and they are quite happy to be picked up

Mine are not especially flighty. The more you handle her and feed her treats the tamer she will get. She is old enough you could give her treats (bugs and fruits and veggies) as long as she has access to grit or is in a pen where she can find her own dirt grit to swallow.

I have not read the entire thread... WHAT is a legbar?
A legbar is an autosexing breed -- which means that at hatch time you can tell the chicks gender.

Gold, Silver and Cream Legbars were developed in the UK by the Cambridge University geneticist R.C. Punnett and Michael Pease.

Cream Legbars in the USA were imported by Greenfire Farms - and have gained a lot of traction since their import. These birds lay a greenish-blue or blue egg, have a crest, sweet personalities (for the most part) are very pretty and you know the answer to the cockerel/pullet question right from the start.
