yeah!

I bought a scale meant for weighing fish, I'm going to attach a 1 gal jug with the bottom and neck cut out (I've used it before as a kill cone) and punch a hole in it to hang on the scale. Then I can zero it out, plop a bird in, and get the weight. Need to get out and do it this week... but first later tonight I will be adding my weekly pics of my 6 baby girls. :)

I use a hanging scale. Zero the scale and use a loop of bale twine around the legs and hang him on the hook. Quick & easy. No harm to the bird. Well maybe to their dignity but they recover that fast.

After I saw Kathy's scale ( the produce type with the dial face and a flat area on top to place the item bring measured) I got a vintage version for my bigger birds, and I use a small kitchen scale for the babies.

Here are this week's pictures. This group photoshoot would have been hilarious if I had been WATCHING and not LINING UP the chicks!

One photo was not too bad but keeping them in place for a SECOND photo in the exact same order was interesting to say the least. Brown band kept wanting to run over and visit with Pink and Green at the other end.

I lost orange band, the runt from the pullet egg, due to an unplugged brooder earlier this week. Blue band is still humongously ahead on the growth curve. Brown band is now the smallest of the 6 chicks. Everyone got new bands today, same colors as before but size 6 or 7 (they wore size 4 at hatch).

All these photos were taken at the same time but sometimes my flash kicked in... so they are hard to compare in the individual photos. The side by side is probably best for comparison. Brown band seems to be the lightest with the least distinct markings. White is probably the darkest, with Pink a close second. I love this stage where their little crests start poufing above their head feathers!

Black, brown, white, blue, pink, green

Reverse: Green, pink, blue, white, brown, black. You can see here why blue stands out as being HUGE.

Nice pictures and tracking, RInda. Looks like laundry is waiting!
