Hope its a feeding issue with the crooked toes and not a genetic issue for you.

Humidity and hatching issues, like an early hatch can have affect the toes also. The only way to ascertain if it is truly genetic would be to test hatch. I use medicated feed and to date have had no issues with cocci.

I've seen crooked toe in late hatches from large eggs (humidity?), none of which were CL.
I also use medicated feed, am not seeing coccidiosis, and no known toe/leg/hip problems.
Is there something that can offset the thiamine deficiency?

Maybe mixing Red Cell vitamin supplement into their feed? I know it's high in Thiamine (vitamin B-1).

My young pullets are starting to lay. The darkest is a BCM, the other two are either Barnevelders, Splash Marans or Jubilees. And the blue is one of the Legbar girls. Just need to get the pens arranged soon and then start hatching. Very happy.

I looked at the auction and it looks like the same add that they ran last year. The pictures are of the 2013 chickens. I bought some of last years and got 3 gold hens and 2 gold roos-all have been sold. I got 2 that I kept.

Good to know. I have been following the auction for a little while now and have been seriously debating on bidding, I was waiting til the last min. I have been hesitant to bid though. At first I thought the auction was for all chicks from the newest line but it is a mix from all there lines and chicks wont be banded.

I agree. It is the same add they ran on auctions last year. I got really lucky with my first CLBs from and eBay auction and then some cockerels that I bought. Since then the hatching eggs and chicks that I have bought seem to come from GF's lines after the first one. These have grown out with way too dark and too much gold. I recently got some eggs from a breeder in TX only to have the PO scramble 10/12. Of the two that are left, one has quit and the other is developing with hatching days starting Friday. I do not mind hatches that are at least 50% but it just feels that I am throwing away money to get some decent stock to build with.

I am using my good creme pullet and my good roo to hatch as much as possible to see if I can hit the lottery and get some decent birds from them. So if anyone has some clues on discriminating chicks for keeping versus culling, give me a holler!
