Cream Legbars

Ok, I need help. I'm selling one of my girls. She's got the white spots on her back, minimal crest, and she's a loner, won't stay with the flock forages all alone, which isn't safe in my area. What do I charge for her? It's hard because I dislike the money aspect of most things, so help would be appreciated.
How old is she? Is she near laying?

I've been told my prices are low, which is nice sometimes because I don't have to hold onto chickens longer than I want. I'm not selling Cream Legbars and sometimes I'm not sure what I'm selling since I've ordered a couple of hatchery surprises and I'm not sure on the breeds.

Personally, I would list her for about $5, maybe $10 more than what other pullets her age are going for in your area, making sure to highlight she's a blue egg layer. Not knowing your area its hard to say, maybe $25? I know the Texas board on BYC is pretty helpful when it comes to Texas area related questions, maybe the Colorado board is too?

The woman that wants her knows what she is, and her faults. I guess I just haven't been doing this long enough. She's not quite a year yet, so already laying.

In our area layers can go for as little as $20 to what ever the market would bear - I sold them 2 years ago for $75 a piece. Older hens may be free or at little cost. I think $5 or $10 for a young pullet is a bit low and doesn't really help defray costs. I could and would not go that low here. I'm starting my CCL chicks off at $25 here and pricing my hens at $40-$45 I think. If they are gold I may not sell them at all or let them go for about $30 as Easter Eggers. I am not selling any males this year just as I last year. I am only listing pullets again this year.

I think I'm going to list the White Sports as a pair on craigslist locally as I need the pen space for my creams. I've collected and incubated some of their eggs so we'll see what comes of it.

As for the down color, from what I remember hearing or reading, the change came from the standardizing process. The Cream Legbar down color in the article was as Punnet described it when they made the breed. The down color would fluctuate and there was not an SOP as the breed was just created. When they banded together to create a standard for acceptance into the British SOP the birds had to be bred to, and described as, a consistent standard so the 'as silver' was then adopted to describe the color as Punnet himself describes it as part of the range of color he was seeing from the onset and it probably became more consistent as the birds were bred forward and standardized'. The silver description has always been part of the British SOP and that has not changed since its incept but the 'very light pale butter' description was a recent one by a British Judge about the adult female hackle color I believe.

However folks want to describe the color of the down or the bird will in part always be subjective despite the what the genetics demand
Gotta eat my lunch now.

FWIW, I sell the pullets that I am not retaining for breeding for $35-40 depending upon age in Virginia. The sales that I make are to folks who want pet quality blue egg layers and are different from Easter eggers.

Can I get some opinions on my lil roos? I bought two but can only keep one and I'm not sure which one to keep.. First little guy is a bit smaller and it looks like his comb might be a bit crooked but he has some nice colors

2nd lil guy has a nice straight comb but seems to be all greys so far

How long are you able to keep both? I would let them grow out more before making a choice if you can. One might have an amazing personality that might out weigh a crooked comb. The first one looks to have more of a crest. So much can change over a few months, even until after molt, at least with my personal, non legbar flock. Earlobe colors might play a factor too. These are just a few points I've heard breeders point out that I never would have thought to consider. Do you know anything about the eggs they hatched from? Size? Color? The smaller chick might just be smaller for now because it was from a smaller egg or pullet egg and could catch up. We had turkens last year that were bantam size when we got them but caught up with the others and are standard size.

I'm not sure if this helped or not!

I have a few weeks before I could legally sell/rehome one. I just don't want to get too attached lol
I'm not sure about the eggs, they were shipped to me at a day old by a breeder.
