Cream Legbars

These three chicks hatched out Saturday and these are my first Cream Legbars. I am pretty certain that I have 1 female and 2 males but could any of you confirm with more experience?

I think you have 2 females and a male. The chipmunk stripes are the pullets and the lighter colored chick is a male. :) Congrats on the new CLBs, I just got into them myself.

It is exciting..it was a disappointing hatch as I had set 17 CLB eggs and 9 Dominiques. These were not shipped but picked up too. 8 Dominiques and 5 legbars made it to lockdown and all the dominiques hatched but only 3 legbars. I am getting another set on Friday from a different farm...Hopefully better results.

The one I had a question on in the second picture up front is darker. Do those then to grow out with too much color? I was pretty certain about him due to the washed out markings on the back and lack of eyeliner.

From what I have read some people say in their specific flocks that they can use down color of chicks to know somewhat the color their males will grow out to be like. Others say there is no connection. Also some people say that male chicks that are showing too much of a rusty color in the down feathers as a chick is said to become a colorful adult.

I have yet to make a connection using down feathers to determine adult feather color but maybe one day I might if I can lock down some traits with in my flock.

@ChicKat posted a wonderful example of the chick down colors that CL cockerels and pullets come in

Looks like I might have been wrong about the sex, but good luck on your next eggs!

Congratulations on your hatch!

Chicken Pickin is right, you do have the light and dark downed chicks from that hatch. Both sexes can have light or dark from the SAME parents. I have to add we had a member from New Mexico who said the darker downed chicks grew up to be the lighter cockerels - (I miss Steen)----

In a few weeks when they have feathers instead of down - you probably won't be able to tell the chicks apart based on the light/dark down - so you may want to leg band them when you start to see serious feathers. Great that you will be hatching more--- you will have several to choose from - and they go through a LOT of changes on the way to adulthood.

I would follow @chickat suggestion of banding the legs. You could then photo essay their growth and compare feather color (I'd love to see that). My four males had this color at hatch. All still resemble in color.

I'll post new pics at 12 weeks this weekend.
