Cream Legbars

Wow, those are gorgeous horses!

All white or grey horses were born a dark color, unless they are genetically an albino or creme. Horses grey out in different ways though. Some dapple. Some are flea-bitten. Some are a purer silver white. When you give a grey or white horse a bath you can also see where they had white markings as a baby (like the above Lippazaner) because the skin is pink. A grey horse has dark skin.

My Legbar Roo

Nice full tail - looks to be approaching 45-degree angle - nice rounded chest...

Your tag line cracks me up.....

...but there you have it.
Thanks MrsFitzDarcy - it is very interesting to consider other critters who go through very visible changes -- there are a lot of stages in plumage growth in Cream Legbars---and we thus far don't have any REALLY old ones..... my oldest will be 3 in January -- and I swear that they are getting lighter plumage in their crests -- like people get white/gray hair...maybe sun bleaching...dunno.

About the term crele for the colored birds- if we call them crele, the hens would have to meet the color standard which means more barring. By producing crele hens with good barring, I would worry about losing the auto sexing traits. Sure, you can still sex crele chicks but not as easy. Even though there are gold legbars in the UK, they are a different breed. If we just copy the color standard for our birds, we wouldn't have to worry about anything really. The color of the gold legbars in the UK is the same as our non-cream birds but it is not crele patterned.

The variety name is not yet set on stone, and you bring up some good points FMP :thumbsup For education purposes, how is the gold standard different than Crele?
