Cream Legbars

minnehaha -

Your neighbor is pretty lucky - to be getting some nice CL hybrids--- ;O) They will probably be great egg layers.

Thank you.....LOL

I dearly love my neighbor. She is nearly 80 and is a free chicken magnet, and loves that I call her that! She has a whole chicken yard full of mongrels and gets better eggs (that are jumbo) than anyone around from her motely crew, and I suppose you are right, these hybrids are going to lay lots and lots of jumbo blue eggs for her. But at least I will not be accidentally incubating those eggs.

Since this thread has been quiet lately I thought I would post a picture of my cockerel for critique if anyone is interested. He is my first and only CL cockerel and is 22 weeks. I have been reading up on the SOP but I am still learning to translate it into real life. So if it isn't too boring for everyone, I thought I would just go through it with my roo. I would be happy to hear from others! If nothing else, and you all think I am crazy, this is a good exercise for me.

HI, sorry for the late comments, but if you don't mind...
I like how stocky he looks, but his chest is not as full / low as I understand the preferred shape to be; if it doesn't fill in as he matures, I think that can be built out in the offspring with some nice hens.
I love how dark the barring is on his tail feathers, I usually see so much white in the sickles...
My burning question is (sorry if I missed the answer somewhere): what color is his wing triangle? The SOP discussion has been: white triangle, double cream cockerel; gold triangle, not double cream, but probably split for cream considering how light his hackle and saddle feathers are...

I definitely don't mind the comments sol2go. I always appreciate when people take the time. I don't think his chest is awesome either, especially in the first picture it looks a little weak. I think I read somewhere on here that it should protrude to or past the beak. Not sure if that is actually what was said or I made it up

I am really looking forward to seeing how he turns out with a little more growing.

I don't believe his wing triangle is white. I need to get a hold of him and take some wing pictures. We did get snow last night and even though it has mostly melted it is a sloshy mess out there right now so it might be a few days. It is so funny how much the chickens do not like the snow. No brave snow chickens around here!

I put these in the Legbar thread by accident, but I think they fit better here. Here are my new juvies from Maria and my dirty little Rees pullet who loves the mulch. If I can make it to Nationals next month, they should be ready! Anyone else getting birds ready for the Fall/Winter shows?

I'll be getting a young trio tomorrow! So excited. :) They're gorgeous birds and I love their blue eggs! Whenever I build my breeder coop, I'll be sure to sell hatching eggs or chicks.
