Cream Legbars

Well, the final numbers from my hatch are 21 birds out of 24 eggs, all shipped - one early quitter, one late quitter, and one little cockerel who turned and blocked his air supply while zipping

Found him just a little too late. But anyway, my ratio was phenomenal. 14 pullets and 7 cockerels. Not a bad start to my flock!

That is awesome! Enjoy your chicks.

Good news! All 4 of my Line D girls started laying --and all between 19.5 and 21 weeks (the 2 JR's still don't look quite ready: combs just a bit underdeveloped yet). Bad news: ONE of them is laying green eggs! (This pic is 2 days of eggs from the 4 girls-- they're starting out w/ a bang!) I've never had green eggs before.... I sure won't be incubating those. And as soon as I can identify her, she's gone.... Darn!

Congrats on the nice looking eggs. It can be hard to tell color precisely from pictures. As far as I understand it...the standard says that green eggs are acceptable as well as blue. Of course, I understand personal preference as well.

Yep, I know they're "acceptable", I just don't like green eggs (and ham, I am, I am!). I got some Marans eggs from April Howington and she threw in a couple of her "homegrown" CCL's (she's trying to develop a new line following Punnets "recipe") and those eggs were green, too. Nice chicks, but I didn't add them to my breeder pen. It's my understanding that egg color is genetic, and other than maybe getting "lighter" as the season progresses (esp like w/ Marans), the color is fixed. Is this correct? Does anyone know if this hen's egg color could change to blue?

Sweetdreaming they won't ever go blue. There will be variation just like you see with Marans and others. If they lighten up they may look more "blue" depending on who is doing the looking

Since this thread has been quiet lately I thought I would post a picture of my cockerel for critique if anyone is interested. He is my first and only CL cockerel and is 22 weeks. I have been reading up on the SOP but I am still learning to translate it into real life. So if it isn't too boring for everyone, I thought I would just go through it with my roo. I would be happy to hear from others! If nothing else, and you all think I am crazy, this is a good exercise for me.

So this is what I see:
Comb: A large comb that is not entirely upright. With six points. That doesn't touch the head as it extends back. I am not entirely sure what thumb marks or side sprigs are.

I think his beak looks pretty good and is clear of the front of the comb. Right color

I think his face is pretty smooth? Not really sure. Good color.

I think his eye is pretty normal and round. Right color.

I think his wattles are quite large. Maybe larger than they should be?

I think his ear lobes are a good size but are not entirely enamel white.

He has a small crest that follows along his comb. Is cream and grey but it has some chestnut coloring.

His head seems pretty normal to me.

I think he has good length of neck and it is well feathered. He does have some chestnut in his hackles.

His back is decently flat? And has a bit of a slope to the tail.

He has moderate amounts of chestnut on his shoulders and back/saddle.

I am not entirely sure I know the difference between sickles, lesser sickles and coverts. But I feel he has good barring. He is still growing back some tail feathers.

I think his tail angle is pretty good? Maybe a little above 45 degrees.

His breast looks fairly forward/full to me at times. Sometimes less. Any thoughts?

I think his legs are straight and he has the right amount of toes. They are yellow.

I don't know his weight but when I look at him he seems to be of a good size. I should weigh him.

So what are his biggest problems? Color? Comb? Are there things I am missing about his build that are not good?

I'm going to be selling a correct for cream Cream Lebar pullet that is nearing point of lay and I'm having trouble deciding on a price.
What are you all roughly charging? I know it's different depending on the area but thought I would ask. I don't want to over or under charge.

Another question, has anyone noticed a CLs earlobes turn from yellow tinged to white as they age? Or is it very likely they will remain yellowish?
