Cream Legbars

Well, I appreciate everyone's input. Obviously I am new to breeding chickens and these Legbar threads have been very helpful. I think whenever you get a bunch of people together there is always going to be some conflict. That is people for you!

I would just like to thank everyone for being so generous with their knowledge and opinions. Chickat and chicken pickin have been especially patient with me answering questions as have others on this thread.

When you are new it can be difficult to interact with people that know more than you but this group has been particularly welcoming. Thanks!

In addition to the recent link posted by Nicalandia, he also provided a longer selection of links on the Alternative - Legbar SOP thread.
If you start with the Classroom at the Coop discussion, it may be helpful as they specifically address your lack of columbian question.

Meanwhile, the edelras link is a good general reference.

I'm not one of the genetic specialists, but I am a reading enthusiast! I think you are going to need a really comfortable chair and some chocolate...
Thanks, I have been reading bits at a time. I am trying to read for comprehension which is slow going! I think the chocolate will help...

Although we know about the major MI group, there appear to be lots of melanizers that are modifier genes.  SO if you can pick birds with less melanin and use them for breeding, over time you should be able to weed out the excessive modifiers in your gene pool.  Especially focus on getting the least melanin in the breast feathers, since certain modifiers seem to work more on one part of the body vs. the other (crest, hackles, etc).

Any pics of ones you are having trouble with?  That might give a clue to any other genes you are fighting.

This is the pullet in question. Her first set of breast feathers were tipped with black. This third set are still dark on the ends but not quite as bad as the first. I'd love to save her genetics for diversity down the road, but there may just be too many faults to play with.

yeah that effect is the result of melanizers(Melanotic) reminds me of my friend's Wieslaw Leghonr x Black Leghorn cross I posted

from his project he got alot of different melanized hens, it seems that the melanizer that is affecting your birds is a persistent one, out crossing to a "Clean" line of Legbars would do the trick, or if all fails then outcross to leghorn would be another option
