Cream Legbars

This is my young roo legbar.
Very nice cockerel, I like him a lot. First I will start by saying the very first thing I noticed is his back. The back length is so long and fantastic, often we see short backed males that seem scrunched, Im loving his length. To make him even better his tail angle (at least in this photo) is nice and low, another thing we don't often see, many CL males have much too high of an angle. He is also carrying his wings well has good beak and leg/feet color. I like that his comb is small though his points look messy(though hard to tell in the pic). And so far his feather coloring and barring is overall nice and the type of coloring I look for in my males(though im not sure about his wing triangle) . I really like the looks of him if he were mine I would definitely hold on to him.

How old is he? He still has a lot of growing and filling out to do but paired with the right female you will hopefully get some good chicks from him. Post pics as he matures please.

Another very nice cockerel. I also like his backline and tail set. He has a nice bowl shaped bottom line , too.

Here is my McDreamy with his poor floppy comb. I don't know anything al all about coloring, conformation etc. so I'd love some honest feedback from you guys - I'm not planning to breed for anyone but friends and my own flock but would like to know what "the experts" think. So weigh in if you care to. Happy week to everyone!

Here is McDreamy with Meredith: (They do have feet - just buried in the pine straw LOL)

Wook at his widdle face!

Poor floppy combed thing. Only a mother could love.

One of his girls. I'm a little worried about the red - is that normal?

McDreamy being self conscious:

One of his other girls. She doesn't have the red on her face. This one is very shy.

I need some good names. Hate to name them after all the Grey's Anatomy crew but it would be kind of funny.

I glad you mentioned the underline. I have been unclear to what shape we are looking for. Does anyone have any wording that should describe the underline of the CL? To me Im not sure bowl shape comes to my mind when I think of the CL shape, but I could be wrong Im still learning. Anyone have thoughts on this?

You have some very nice looking birds, and beautiful pictures, you capture them perfectly.

First I have to say WOW they are vibrant, beautiful colors that are showing up on them. But if you are breeding them to be correctly colored Cream Legbars that follows the proposed SOP then the color to me seems way to colorful. They seem to be gold in color not cream and will likely produce gold in color offspring, though mating them is the only way to know if they carry cream or not. So color wise not completely correct.

For type they look nice. Your male has good back length and nice shape he hold his wings high and close to the body. I like that his length gives him height ( I don't like a scrunched CL) Even his yellow legs and beak are a vibrant yellow. His comb is a mess but the comb isn't as important as type first, color second. His barring is there and visible though not clearly distinct evenly spaced barring.

Your hens also though colorful seem to have a nice shape to them. They have length to them also which is nice, the pullet in pic one has a nice shape and also holds her wing well. I can see barring in her under fluff which is good(some CL don't have clear barring showing through). The salmon on their breasts is very nice, clean and clear of black tipped feathers. I like their heads especially the one with the reddening face she has the head and beak shape I like to see. And yes the reddening on your pullets face is normal, signs of maturing :)

What are your plans as far as breeding? Do you plan to just have fun and breed what you have or do you have goals of breeding to Cream? @ChicKat has also started a thread on the alternative Legbar Variety which is a discussion somewhat on the more colorful Cream Legbars . Your birds would do nice as examples on that thread in my opinion. Here is the link to the thread if you would like to check it out https://www.backyardchickens.com/t/...ection-for-alternative-legbars-sop-discussion

Just a quick note to everyone, I am in no way an expert on CL or their type/color. Im learning the SOP just like everyone else. Im just always quick to jump in with my opinion when others ask because I feel its the best way for me to learn. So please everyone take what I say with a grain of salt lol because I am still a newbie like many others on here.

scatterknit

cute cute name and chickens. You really did get the red-headed side of the family - reminds me of the 'Weasley's' in Harry Potter. Nice yellow legs too. If I'm not mistaken, the red in the face of \hat one pullet signals that she is maturing. How old is your bunch?

This is the hen I have to breed him with
Do you happen to have a picture of her standing alone in profile? Though with your nice cockerel Im sure this paring will give you some good chicks to work with. Do you plan to keep some of the offspring to add to your breeding program? If so cross the best daughters back to your male.
