Cream Legbars

Oh good info! I also never knew they were different.

I have never had chicks with curled toes. I have seen a few with crooked toes.
Seen some hatched with curled toes. Not a pretty sight.

I think the crooked toes thing is interesting I wonder if early chick injury (such as large jumps on to hard surface) can contribute. The one boy I have that is growing a little slow has a couple crooked toes on one foot. I don't brood on wire but they did have a hard wooden floor to their brooder that was initially covered in paper for the first week or so then changed to shavings.

I'm inclined to think that the condition may be more related to incubation than genetics but wont be breeding him either way because the other male I have is growing faster and has a straight comb so far.

I just separated the boys and girls this week and moved them to the outside brooder. I'm considering starting the boys on broiler feed at 8 weeks. I'm raising the CCL together with some Pita Pintas and hoping the culls will get a bit more table weight on them by then. Any thoughts.

Ho guys can anyone tell me what sex this 3 weeks old cream legbar is please?

Noooo. Is that set in stone? What are definitive signs of a female, i may be able to swap it. But the breeder thought it was a hen due to the eye lines...

Males can have eyeliner also, just not as defined as the females. Just like Females can also have head spots, just not as large as the males.

Male in back female in front both showing eyeliner just varying degrees

These pics also show how male and female chicks feather in differently, even at this young age.

So is there one sign of a hen thats definative?
Girls have definite (not faint or blurred) striping and eye liner, I would assume anything else is a boy unless it develops otherwise. If there is ever a question assume boy. There are few pleasant surprises but I would not breed those as the autosexing feature is weak.
