Cream Legbars

Sorry I've been gone lately. Seems like this thread has really taken off while I've been away. It's hard to catch up. I had a couple of very busy weekends and then my donkey died. I had him since high school and he was already several years old when I got him. He lived a life spoiled with lots of apples and cracked corn. I will really miss that guy greeting me when I go out toward the barn to take care of the animals. RIP buddy.

Sorry to hear about your donkey. Always so hard to lose our animal friends.

Thanks, everyone! It is definitely hard to lose him. He's been around for so many years and such a great personality. He will be missed a lot! The neighbors always love to hear him, my sisters and parents have known him for years, and we all loved that guy. He was such a sweet and precious donkey!

Sorry for the loss. But unless you have parrots or a giant tortoise its likely to happen to the best of us a few times in our lives. (Then it happens to them)

My chick does have the look of a pullet, even just now when I took the Rees pullets out and placed it side by side with its sisters they all look very similar and pullet, they have a different look than all the boys. All 4 of the thought pullet chicks are even getting the light pinkish brown feathers on the chest. I will say I am unknowledgeable on how the Rees CL chicks feather in, it could very well still be a pullet, but the large white bands across its wing feathers and even the white tips on the shoulder feathers coming in through me off a little bit.

I also just noticed while taking pics that another Rees pullet has white bars across her wing feathers also so this might be the norm. I didn't receive my first group of Rees CL until they were already fully feathered so I never got to watch them at this young stage. Sorry I caused a stir about auto sexing. But this chick had me a little confused.

I'll be interested to hear how this turns out for you.

I'm not sure I can find a baby pic, but I posted recently in response to another chick that seemed to be a pullet and then appeared to feather in male (and was sold, I think it was a UK person).

I also had a pullet that went through that phase, her first feathers were significantly more gray and white. I even called the breeder sort of frantic that she looked like a cockerel. After a few months her feathering was more typically wild-type and cream (in my opinion). She has been a very good foundation hen, throwing significantly more pullets than cockerels, all easily auto-sexed. She was not a Rees pullet. Here's a mature pic of her before a molt / her back feathers grew in nicely and the rooster has more hens to chase around this year...

and some of her offspring

That was me, i think your response in this thread had pictures - https://www.backyardchickens.com/t/...ine-thoughts-and-experiences/30#post_15141217

The indestinct auto sexing does throw a spanner in the works, especially when picking up chicks in the 2 week to 4 week range IMO.

Does anyone have a good place to find out about the Crosses with CLB Roo? Or how to work the chicken calculator Im such a novice at this stuff. Im thinking of putting some welsummer pullets in with my CBL breeding pen.
