Good point...but then if you bred to another breed...it wouldn't be a Cream Legbar any longer. BTW beautiful chick picts in your post. Love those chicks!!!That is good. Glad you explained the difference between auto sexing and sex link!![]()
Cream Legbars should be auto sexing generation after generation when bred to another Cream Legbar. You will lose the auto sexing feature if you breed a Cream Legbar to a different breed.

You can cross a Cream Legbar male(he is gold based) to a silver based female to produce Red SexlinksAnd if you ARE the type who likes to cross breeds, if you use a cream legbar HEN with a different breed rooster, the chicks will be sexable at hatch. If you do the reverse and use a cream legbar rooster over another breed hen, this won't work.
SOOOOOO.... If you want to make sex-linked olive eggers, you can cross cream legbars and a breed that lays dark brown eggs (like marans), using a Marans rooster over a cream legbar hen. Cool, huh? (But this doesn't hold out too long beyond F1, as I understand it).
(I'm totally planning to do this, BTW.)

I like to cross my CL males to my Silver Laced Cochin they make great crosses, I have also crossed to Silver Laced Wyandottes, similar cross.Ooooh, I didn't know that! Though in retrospect, I did know the silver/gold thing on a basic level. (I'm at the fairly rudimentary level, chicken-genetics-wise...)
Aaaaannnnddddd.... (STUPID QUESTION ALERT) what breeds are silver based?

This thread I linked below started many years ago but is still an active thread. Post number ONE of the thread has great info with a few breeds listed for appropriate Red and Black Sexlink crosses. Though many more breeds are know known to be able to be used.

You can also check out the CL hybrid thread, loads of info and pictures that are Cream Legbar crosses are shared there also.
