Cream Legbars

How did you handle him when he was young? Did you pick him up a lot or let him do his thing? Sometimes I don't think it matters how you handle them, they are going to turn out good or bad regardless. What line is yours from? He's a lot lighter than mine and has a bigger comb. Mine are from GFF first lines, not the latest Rees line. One of mine had markings like yours, kinda broken along the V line. Here she is at the top left of the pic. (click on pic to make larger) It will be interesting to see how they both turn out. I hope mine aren't aggressive. If they are, I'll just have to get some more cockerels and try again. Since aggression is inherited, I really don't want to have that in my CLBs. Same question, how were your's raised? Hands off, or hands on? I have a Jack-Rat, and he can really jump! Someone dumped him off on our road when he was around a year old. I caught him on my back porch one night. I eased the door open and hollered at him. That dog jumped straight up at least 5' off the ground! I died laughing! Make a long story short, he stayed and has made one of the best dogs I have ever had. He is now 3, and I love him to death. Since he is part Rat Terrier, he has an "off" button. He is not go, go, all the time. He loves to cuddle. :)
We held hi. And snuggled with him alot when he was little. My daughters loved him. Now they are just fearful of him. It makes the sad and me sad.

Here are a few pics of my Greenfire Legbar chicks. They just arrived yesterday was listed as 8 pullets and 4 Roos. The first pic is of a very dark what I assume to be a male, the second is a very light one I am unsure of the next two are of definite Roos and the last two are the darkest and lightest pullets. What do you think?

I feel that the first one pic might be a pullet.

To be honest, I don't know. I don't own his parents.

As for aggressiveness. Ive had 6 cockerels over all so far and the first 3 were very timid and not aggressive at all (of course they were housed with bigger boys) but were not quality breeders, the 1 who was separated from other cockerels and girls attacked me so he is in the freezer now too. I have a youngster approaching 20 weeks who is a friendly sweetie so far. The other boy had wry tail so he went to freezer camp early. Im down to my 1 boy and he seems friendly enough (the other one did too until he attacked me I probably could have given him a chance and chalked it up to me wearing the wrong clothes but he was quite persistent when he went after me) I think that at certain ages the hormones kick in and can make any roo aggressive in the right circumstances. Im my case I was petting the pullets who would squat for me so that was probably the trigger for this guy. He was about 26 weeks old at the time and had only recently been able to mingle with some of the POL pullets. He had a bunch of faults for breeding but was going to give him a go anyway .. that is until he attacked me. Just want to state that sometimes the aggressive nature of the roo is triggered by us and is a natural instinctive reaction to some circumstances. Try to be sure you are weeding out an aggressive temperament vs an acute reaction. I have not noticed CLB roos be overly aggressive comparative to other chickens so far.

They are so stinking cute!! Fluffy little one's they are! Please keep us updated with their growth!
The first one also seems to be a pullet to me but the white dot on it's head is a bit confusing - I'm sure someone more experienced can chime in! :)

Anybody have birds from Curtis Hale's line? I notice that many Cream Legbars are the Rees line.. I'm excited to be getting my two Hale chicks next week!
I'll post a picture with comparison through out their growth.

I have three pullets (now 20-21 weeks old) that are from a pre-Rees line via Meyer. Not sure about Hale line, but was from breeders getting stock from Greenfire pre-Rees, and providing eggs/chicks to Meyer. Autosexing really clear (even the "iffy" one wasn't all THAT iffy). I would LOVE it if you would post photos of both chicks so we can see auto sexing features in Rees vs. Hale. (Yes, I know it's just an n of one, but I'm still interested...)

I promise I will! I should be getting the other one next Tuesday/Wednesday!

When I asked Kaylee (she manages the poultry operations at Secret Hills), she said that the Rees line lays larger eggs, they both have the same egg color, both have wonderful crests, but the Hale line is more silver.

Guess I'll just have to wait and see when they get older!

You know I love you guys and I also love to take pictures so I'm taking all of ya on the journey of their growth!

I'll probably take pictures every few days and make a page that's a chart progression of the Rees vs. Hale lines growth!

Aside for watching the feathering like this I weighed my chicks weekly to determine growth rates
It was interesting to see individual birds go through growth spurts
