Cream Legbars

Thanks Sol2go! I got his parents from Greenfire last fall, the line(mix) before Rees. My very determined silkies hatched him after I had sold my rooster, when I thought I was done with Cream Legbar roosters. After lurking and learning from y'all what to look for in a decent cream roo, it's nice to hear that he might be a keeper for a while at least. It would be nice to be able to turn off their crows (sssssssssssssssssssssssss), at least until 6 or so. When I can get the roosters in their rooster box, it is better, but our coop is open air, so the sound travels really well. Any suggestions there would be great! I would love it if they would put themselves in their rooster box at night, which is a giant wooden shipping box, so I don't have to.

Thanks again and have a great day!

In general I have found shrubs and trees help to soften sound transmission, in addition to anything you might modify at the coop.

If the wooden crate is on the ground, elevating it may attract the chickens to roost inside. I have quite a few different coops, and each flock seems to have different preferences. Some like to sleep inside on a roosting bar, others prefer a nesting box, and some roost outside in the protected run. It's easier to train them when they are young, possibly by shutting them in at night, than trying to change habits as they mature.

Glad to know you reconsidered Cream Legbars, it looks like you are off to a good (re)start.

beautiful birds, just love those yellow eggs
Thank you. I have to share what happened.... while I was busy taking these pictures I didn't realize I had left the coop door slightly ajar. About five escaped and then I had to chase them all over the yard. They are quick!

They certainly are! I remember one of my girls escaped from the newbie isolation coop, spent about half an hour chasing her round the field, but they are sweeties!
