Cream Legbars

Secret to the cream roosters? It's called total luck!!! (this time around anyway). If my babies last summer hadn't all gotten sick and I put them all down, I would NOT have look for more stock and happened upon Coral (Poco Pollo) and then things fell into place for me to take over all her Cream Legbar breeding stock. :) OK maybe not luck maybe divine Providence!!! Hope I can learn something to help everyone though!

OK here are my three boys from Sunday/Monday's hatch. I have the left (gray) and right (hint of brown) ones banded to watch as they grow out. Anyone else seeing boys this color? 70% of my boys are like the one in the middle- very dark. I'm assuming those will grow out with more chestnut in the saddle/shoulders. Hoping at least one of these two light ones will grow out like Hugger, my nice boy, as they are his brothers. If they do I may be onto something!

It would be great if everyone could show pictures of the chicks vs what they turned out to be when they got their adult feathering, sort of like a side-by side comparison.

I'd offer to start a thread but my eggs are on order (thanks Papa Brooder!) so I wont be able to post photos for about a year.

I'm coming up on 1-year of ownership--- I think it was March last year when I got hold of Cream Legbars. It is awesome how far this breed has come in just 1-year. And the Cream Legbar Community has learned SO much. wow.
I was just thinking that too. Mine arrived in March of last year.

Last Winter, I had not even heard of Greenfire Farm. I was looking on Craigslist to see what was available in spring chicks and saw Jubilee Orpington listed for sale at $130.00 straight run. Wow! The breeder said she got her stock from Greenfire. Which led me to look them up. I saw the description for the Cream Legbar, with the auto sexing and the blue eggs and was hooked. Had to have some. Jordan Farm had some immediately available and here we are. I had never even hatched an egg in an incubator before and now I can say that I am breeding Cream Legbars. OK, just 9 so far!

It nice not to be alone.... mine came to me directly through Craigs List from Samantha Kellerman who had gotten them from Greenfire Farms. Love these birds.

That's right!!! I am NOT going to pull Charlie out for a few days though, got to wait for this snow to clear up so I can finish the bachelor pen...

Ya know -- one of my little guys looked a lot like the one on the left. I'm posting a picture of him.

Here is the cockerel:

This picture was taken in a particularly harsh morning sunlight....he is more colorful than this on the saddle and maybe the red extends a bit across his back more than shown in this picture...I just think that he is standing nicely, and -- showing off his feathers here.

Not to be out done...here's his sis:

She was trying out the nest box today -- rearranging wood chips and he was standing at the door way giving her encouragement.
