I think you are one of the lucky ones with a early maturing girl. Curtis just had 2-3 of his pullets start laying before 5 months!

This is probably a good example of what Rinda had called a 'split tail' --



The wind is whipping in that picture too -- but those two feathers are more vertical and they don't settle down to his tail as a general rule....

Your set up is so interesting to me... Does each hen have her own house? or do they use the background structures just to lay eggs? Your pullet has nice big eyes and looks very serious about it all.

These are their grow out coops right now... It is our isolation area for all new birds but we haven't had any for a while!
