Cream Legbars

Thanks. I posted in a gender thread and crazyclucker said it was to early to tell sex and that the picture wasn't good enough to tell. I thought one of the great things about this breed was auto sexing right away. Is there a waiting period or once they dry we can tell sex?

I think that person must not be familiar with Cream Legbars. This breed is usually very easy to sex as soon as they are dry. See if you can pick them out- I have three males, two regular females, and a white sport female in this photo.

Yes, I agree with KPenley--- looks to me like you have all girls. -- The person in the other thread was not familiar with Cream Legbars - and the autosexing - as soon as you have the fluff dry is one of the most amazing features of the breed. After awhile -- we kind of get used to knowing 'girl or boy' - and forget that other breeds have to wait quite awhile. Glad to hear that you got the ones you want.

Such cute chicks -- and great examples of the variety. Did you randomly pick chicks - or go for the most varied among the ones that you had on hand?? Your girl on the left is very gray compared to the girl on the right who has more brown/warm tones. Little guy on the right --- great head spot advertising. Of course you will need to give us comparison photos as you grow them out...Right?

Oh BTW, I had just recently re-read this Punnett article:
http://www.ias.ac.in/jarch/jgenet/41/1.pdf

and when you check the plate at the very end, two of his boys seem to have the eye stripe, and one girl seems to be lacking. So although it is a pretty good indicator, I think back stripes and headspot are the give-aways. :O)

I agree, back stripe is #1 to me and headspot #2, the eye stripe is just an extra cute feature but I don't look to it for sexing as a general rule.

Yes I picked the most varied from the hatch- except I didn't get my super light boy from that batch into the photo; he'd already been sold. I had a total of 8 boys and 7 girls including this white girl. I banded the little gray girl, we will see how she grows out. I haven't hatched one like her before.

I gave a friend of mine some eggs to hatch as I was out of incubator space. A bunch of EEs and four CL eggs. She ended up with a pair- she is SO excited! She was sad at first because only one had hatched and it was a boy, but then she went to clean out the incubator 3 days after hatch date and another egg was pipped. A perfect but tiny girl! What a miracle! She had a lot of late hatchers I told her her incubation temp was too low. She didn't get any pips until the morning after hatch date.

Thanks. I do see the difference between the boys and girls. It is so interesting all the different shades they can be. Is the white one a CL? They are all so cute. I just wasn't sure because none were different and I kept thinking I was missing something.
