Cream Legbars

As is the issue with some of the babies that are not as clear as others...I see left to right starting with the top row; girl girl boy boy, second row; boy girl boy. That's going on clarity of striping alone, except for the lower right hand boy. For some reason some pictures have shown up recently showing males missing their white spots. Anyone know why this might happen?

Best wishes with your babies. It will soon be obvious who is who, and as Rinda said I would encourage you to mark the ones who are most clearly autosexing for possible future breeders.

Here are some Cream Legbars:

First one - no crest....
Second photo - medium - what I call "neat crest"
Third photo - Bouffant Crest - too much for my taste -- too fluffy.

These are probably less cream than my other CLs.... but it is kind of hard to say they are 'golden' -- Unless the tip off is the red-head crests (except the one lacking the crest). They have all lightened in the sun and their body plumage is more brownish taupe than my past females that were more gray in the body plumage.

My favorite is the middle one. She produces a daily egg -- but her eggs are still small (pullet size plus) -- she started about a month ago - so it is all normal. She lays that unusual very rounded egg. The last one has recently picked up laying - lays about a 2.0 oz or close about every-other-day. The first one - hasn't produced an egg with a shell - or maybe one when I first got her. She is sadly a cull.....because she has nice legs and body - but she also has squirrel tail. Meant to get more pictures of this group -- but ran out of time -- and was lucky to get these. They are now off to summer camp --- and I am doing a lot of traveling - so it will be autumn before we are re-untied...if they make it through the summer O.K.
Nice crest comparison! This really shows the range of crest sizes in the Cream Legbars. The "neat crest" is what I am selecting for.

I took these photos of my 3 week old CLs today. Quite a range of crests already. I will admit that I prefer the "crazy" crest of my pullet on the lower right, but I will breed toward neater crests if that is what the SOP calls for. (I can't recall what the proposed SOP says. I'll have to take a look.)

I think they listed neat crest. Lots of people are going for the crazy crests which seem to be getting the most votes in the cresting contests. I just fear that the crazy combs will will make it impossible tomaintian erect combs on the cockerels. We will see what results people get over the next couple of years. That is why we have to work with the proposed standard for a minimum of 5 years before APA will consider it for approoval. right? :)

How adorable each and every one. BTW - they go through a punk-rocker look before their adult crests settle down. I think the one in the lower left is a favorite and I like the middle row bottom...

but then again I like them all.

My 3 legbars have different crests, too. Duckie is crestless, while Thing Two is going to have the more "bouffant" style - it's grown even more since this picture.

Thing One looks like she will have a "neat" crest. It's not growing near as fast and hasn't changed much since the picture was taken last week.

I'm so glad they are getting used to the coop and run since I barely finished it the night before I left town! I'll try and get some better pictures this weekend. It's amazing how fast they grow!

Jett, the oldest non-laying Cream Legbar pullet in existence.
What a fooler. She's been laying all along.

However, she is not resigning from the Holding Out (non layers) Club.
She is being impeached.

Handy hint of the day: do not buy eBay eggs from cindylee53.

I was JUST about to write that mine haven't started laying yet either-but Sophia just came in with TWO blue eggs!!!

Unfortunately, one is cracked pretty badly. I lost my roo last week-thanks to my MFL roo who flew into his pen and killed him.
