Ugh my motley crew. One female has lots of white spottiness one female is gold and my male has a wicked twisted comb. I have a pair that is almost three weeks old. I sure hope they turn out better. If not I will use them for layers.

I am enjoying watching them grow and change. I hope I can keep up with taking weekly photos until they are at least 12 weeks old. It should be very useful to help me select keepers in the future. Right now it is easy because I am still brooding them in my house. I don't mind them indoors for the first two weeks, but after that they need to go, lol!

Yup. Keeping chicks in the house too long is like having partying teenagers.

Are all of them supposed to be CLBs?

No they are all together in the outside pen 1 male and 3 females they are 10 weeks old I am going try to get better pics so I will know what to try to breed towards

Got it! Give them a bit more time if you can, since they're still so young. More pics are a great idea! Any close up pics will help show what you're working with, and help you track how your birds grow out for future generations.

@Bama: Don't fret small spots. Lots of the lighter gold girls have those and they either disappear as they grow or after their first molt. I think it was Curtis who was looking into why the mottling was happening. As long as it's sort of dappled, they're fine. If it's dalmatian like spots, then that hen is most likely headed for the laying flock.

Nice photos Bama1. I REALLY like your 3-week old boy. Girl I can't see too well....but the boy looks very nice to me. Keep posting pictures.

What a great picture and funny post!

I just spruced up the run with a bit of lawn and a dustbath station. Luckily DH is a landscaper and we'll just change out the sod periodically with leftovers from jobs. For the dustbath, I dug out the corner (clay & gravel) and refilled it with a mixture of fine dirt, wood ashes and sand. The girls love it!

There are currently 9 people selling CLB's on eBay. Can anyone share their experience with buying CLB's from these people (both positive and negative)?

I don't know any of these sellers, and I'll be the first to say Don't Buy Eggs on eBay.
But that doesn't mean they're automatically disreputable. I like it when there is a link to a web page or some way of identifying the seller.

This is what I could find on a first pass:
deaflojones: shows a brown egg. Edited to add: he wrote back promptly to my inquiry saying the camera made the egg look brown. Located in California.
triplellheidisfeatheredfriends: located in Brainerd, Minnesota. Has great egg handling information.
watsonridgeranch: located in Kempner, Texas. Has a web page! You can contact them directly.
ray_32690: located in Old Town, Florida. Might be able to look them up.
trey22250: located in Corydon, Indiana. Might be able to look them up.
sunnydalecloset: Located in Centralia, Missouri. Looks brand-new to eBay.

I can't comment on the quality of the Cream Legbars shown, nor if they're their own pictures.

E-Bay is always a huge gamble or any of the bid places. You have no way of checking the reputation of the person or the quality of the birds you might get. Best thing is to purchase from a reputable breeder. Before I buy any eggs I talk to the person a lot and if I feel like they are on the up and up then I would send off for hatching eggs. The thing with hatching eggs is you may get 24 eggs and lucky to get 6 chicks.

Some things you might want to ask:

Do you have any pictures of your breeding stock and chicks from them?
Can you send me a sample of one of the eggs shells? (If egg color is important to you…like in Marans that is a pretty fair question to ask.)
How is your fertility this year? (If they are a good breeder they will know exactly what their hatches are. I set ___ , ____ were fertile, ___ hatched).
How you ship and pack your eggs?.
