Cream Legbars

I tried very hard to hatch some Cream Legbars from a few different ebay sellers this winter and ended up with one hen and five roosters. Now I need some help deciding which of my roosters to keep.

I have three from the same batch as the hen that all look pretty similar and like most of the pictures I have seen. One has a much bigger and straight comb, he is probably the winner of these three.

I also have this guy from another source:

He is very white/silver compared to the others.

And then I have this one, from a third source:

He is two weeks younger than the others, but still I'm surprised how much smaller his comb is. He also has a much different body type, taller and bigger. He has nice yellow legs, the others are whitish.

I also have these growing up:

Three girls and three boys from two different sellers, hatched about a month ago. I have read about some other people getting the blond roosters, how do they look when they grow up?

thanks for any advice!

I really like the coloring on your cockerel from a different source. If you decide you don't want him, I will drive down from Seattle to pick him up! I think the blond boys are in high demand as well. So far mine have been darker.

This silvery one is your breeder. :) This color is called "cream" and is where the "Cream Legbar" variety gets its name from. The last one doesn't even look like a pure Legbar. The first three, while they have good type and look like good Legbars have the Gold color so bother/sister mating them to you pullets doesn't seem like it would serve any type of purpose. It doesn't deepen your gene pool, it doesn't move you closer the Cream variety breed standards, etc...

I am not sure what the light color chicks mature to. Last year I got all dark chicks which all turned in to gold based colorful Legbars. I culled 18 cockerels that looked like your first three from last year and am now breeding a cockerel from another breeder that is Cream colored like your breeder. I am hoping that the light colored chicks that I am now seeing from my cream cockerel will grow into more cream colored cockerels, but they may just grow into more unanswered questions. :)

DITTO what GaryDean said- by far this cream boy is your best choice. You are very fortunate to have him to choose compared to the others! Good luck with your breeding plans!

So, this is where all the Legbar folks went.

Thank you! I like the silvery one the best, I am very glad to hear that he is the most correct! I also thought the last one didn't look pure, so it's nice to have that confirmed

Here is the hen, I think she is so pretty:

She is 24 weeks old, I'm hoping for an egg any day now...

Is she a good color? I'm trying to read up on the various Legbar threads, but it's a lot of pages! I gather that silver is also desirable in the hens and she looks fairly gold to me. Does it work that the gold is dominant to silver and so hopefully she is heterozygous and will produce some silver colored hens with the silver rooster, who is homozygous for the recessive silver?
