Cream Legbars

700

On the left my lightest male. Would love to upload more, but experiencing difficulties. Just wanted to say my males will probably begin showing all their color from here on out. There are 12 from an Easter hatch. Many are dark. I went back to the photos of my original GFF males at this age. Even though they are dark, they appear less smudged with chestnut. However, of course, it'll change rapidly in the next 4 weeks. Looking forward to seeing the differences.

I was just about to enter my oldest pullet into the Not Laying Club (at 28 weeks

) but she laid her first egg yesterday! It's a LOT paler than the egg from the pullet who is already laying but larger. I am happy she is laying as she has a decent crest so I am hoping for some crested babies from her.

She also has a nice cream color.

My cream Legbar cockerel started crowing Friday. And is scratching and calling the pullets over. He is hopping at them the past few days also. They are 10 weeks old. I thought it would be a few more weeks before his hormones kicked in !

Thank you! I like the silvery one the best, I am very glad to hear that he is the most correct! I also thought the last one didn't look pure, so it's nice to have that confirmed

Here is the hen, I think she is so pretty:

She is 24 weeks old, I'm hoping for an egg any day now...

Is she a good color? I'm trying to read up on the various Legbar threads, but it's a lot of pages! I gather that silver is also desirable in the hens and she looks fairly gold to me. Does it work that the gold is dominant to silver and so hopefully she is heterozygous and will produce some silver colored hens with the silver rooster, who is homozygous for the recessive silver?
i love the crest on this one very pretty.

Just received 16 nicely packed Cream legbar eggs from Curtis. They are resting point end down till tomorrow when they go into the bator.

Yesterday I found my favorite hen sitting and growling on eggs. (Really, Thursday!) Today she is Miss Porcupine hen. Running out to get food with all of her feathers standing up straight. She looks like a strong case of broody hen. I am putting some of my own Cream Legbar eggs under her. I was thinking about setting some more after a bad hatch the last time and she convinced me. So I will have some of my eggs under her and Curtis's in the Brinsea. And a new coop space after tomorrow. I am having my big run divided up and adding a smaller coop. This will give me 3 separate coops and runs, 2 tractors and the bunny hutch.

This all started because my daughter liked to feed grapes to my neighbors chickens.

HA! "The neighbor's chickens" are the gateway drug. After that it's a slippery slope, isn't it...

a few pictures of my two 4.5-week-old CL chicks:

harold again -- he's got a lot of personality already
