Cream Legbars

My oldest CL rooster started crowing this week - it sounded like he was dying, I swear. My other Roos have all started with a perfect crow, but this was like a dying cat. It cracked me up.

Hopefully his girls will start laying soon now! This breed matures so slow!

In the UK blue, green, and olive are accepted. We were thinking of only putting blue in our Standard, but then many people would be disappointed to find what looks to some as green and some as blue. So...blue or green (blue green) are fine. We don't have an ideal number currently since there is a range, but mine are OAC 151 and OAC 123 if that gives you an example. Someone recently reported getting OAC 178! I think that color is beautiful.
The OAC numbers. Where does that come from? How can i decide what mine are?

OAC stands for Online Auction Chart. If you google that it will come up with the source--it was around $8 shipped. There is a page on the website where you can actually click through the pages and see the different colors represented.

Here is an example. I took some of the eggs that did not hatch and photographed them next to the OAC. I think most of the eggs are OAC 123--the fourth color from the left. Some are closer to other colors. Since color is so subjective it give 2 people discussing the color a frame of reference.

Once you have the color chart, you can lay the egg next to the colors in neutral light and figure out what color the egg most closely matches.

Oh so pretty! I really have no idea what the acceptable color range is. When I get mine I will be sitting on pins and needles waiting for the first eggs!

That's why I love my copy of the color chart!
Here is the link where I bought mine!

LOL- Nothing like an adolescent finding his voice!

I have fallen in love with the look of these chickens! I don't have any yet, but I have a friend who might hatch out some for me!

I have a question. I have read several auctions stating they lay a blue green egg. I have also read where the egg should be blue!
I have a copy of the online auction color chart for reference. What is the desired color for the eggs?
Hi Jessica Lynn---

What I desire -- how about oac213 or oac214... I don't think anyone has mentioned that yet. I just got a beautiful egg -- between 0ac151 and oac179. It's difficult on all these charts when there isn't an exact match...no wonder they use scientific instruments in egg shell color studies. Also thinking that smaller eggs achieve a more saturated color -- which is an interesting trade-off.

I love those two! I never thought about smaller eggs having a more saturated color.
I am really looking forward to the day when I get my Legbars!
