Cream Legbars

well After taking a second look at him, aside from his Saddle he really shows and displays the colors allowed by the british SOP... just look at his shoulders and his secondaries...!!!! Grey Barring right there... I think he is a Fine bird

I need to take some pics of the boys i have in the grow out pen. I have two that look exactly like the black and white photo of the CCL. exact same stance and look to the body as well as the tails looking the exact exact same. the one has allot of color like most males but the 2nd was the lightest grey boy ive ever raised he was an extremely light grey. he has a light chestnut color in his wings and his saddles are like a really light orange. i wouldn't even call it orange. same color as Garydeans boy is showing in his saddles that TherryChicken got but its like its lighter some how. His color is really similar to TherryChickens Roo. Id like to know what you guys think . even though he is not cream i might breed him to my best original stock hen just because his form is exactly the same as the famous Black and white photo. ill get pics on tonight

I will really look forward too seeing those pictures. You are doing such a wonderful job with your breeding program!

Ha I was just thinking it looked a lot like his stock!!! Congrats.

Good comments from Muttsfan. A very fine looking boy overall! Another thing I see is the slight flop in his comb in the previous picture, hopefully it doesn't get any worse. If it does, just keep an eye on the next generation, he should surely produce offspring with combs that will be even better.

Ha...yes, I hand selected him. He was the best cockerel out of the four in his hatch group in my oppinion, but he was hatched from the eggs I got from lonnyandrinda. :)

Crazy question for the week...have you ever had a rooster with a terrible flop of a comb, heal itself? ie start to raise itself back to straight at 1 year old+?????? I had totally given up hope for Graphite who honestly looked like he had a red bang on his head. Now all of a sudden it's rising! I'm glad I held onto him 'just in case". Still not sure I'll use him since his rival has a perfect comb, but this is very interesting!

Hmmm - better get on GaryDean's good side I guess! I agree his comb does appear to fall slightly to one side, still he is such an improvement on what I have been seeing.

Anyone that is willing to spend the time required to trying to figure out how to breed the Cream Legbars, has a goal to improove on what they have, and is honest in their dealings is on my good side.

The logistics aren't always so good for meeting up to pass off my best cockerel on a Saturday morning though. :)

Thanks for that comment though. I always love it when things work out well with chickens we have placed.

I think my cockerel that I kept from Lonnyandrinda is shaping up nicely. He has a nice comb, is stockier than my rooster and has a nice tail angle. His coloring is too red (sigh). I have a young cockerel sent from Greenfire that I am growing. His hatchmates are starting to show red but he has some nice cream color feathers growing in. He has a comically huge crest though and his comb curls around in the back. Sigh. But he is absolutely adorable. So hopefully between the two of them, with my cream colored hens I can get some off spring with straight combs and good coloring and correct tail angles.

It was interesting, the week that I had to decide which of Huggers boys to keep, There was a discussion of trusting your gut feeling. I had 2 cockerels that were similar, The other had slightly better coloring and I was leaning toward him. But in the 5 minutes before my buyer showed up to get the unrelated pair that I was selling, I decided on this guy. He had slightly better confirmation. The other cockerel that I sold turned out to be a mean sucker, and has gone to freezer camp! Whew!

Well, I sent the #1 Hugger brother to TherryChicken and kept the #2 Hugger Brother in case I needed back-up for any of my other four boys that I have to work with. Lol...

The one I kept is very sweet and dosen't have any mean bone in him, but as he matured the white on his earlobes disappeared to where they are nearly all red now. I decided to go ahead and use him to offset high tail angles in one of my breeding groups and he prooved to be infertile. Whew...gland I didn't sell a cull cockerel.
