Cream Legbars

See if this is more clear, and what is it that makes you think he's a hybrid? Educate me!

To me his coloring is very dark, he looks to be lacking barring in the tail and chest area and I think I am seeing beetle green feathering. I see males with dark colors and green feathers and think of a lot of the CL hybrids we have seen on the Cream Legbar Hybrid thread you can view some pictures here https://www.backyardchickens.com/t/825092/cream-legbar-hybrid-thread

He might just come from stock that isn't being breed correctly or to standard, or maybe there is something else in the mix. If you plan to move forward with these CL I would do like @KPenley suggested and cage each female individually to find out who is laying what eggs and band them so you know who is who. Next only breed the pullets that lay blue eggs by test mating them with CL males and raise up the offspring to laying age. Once this generation starts laying you may get a better idea on what genetics your flock is carrying. You could also get yourself some white egg laying hens and use them to test mate your males, when those offspring start laying that will tell you what egg color gene your males carry also.

I agree with the above. His color is very dark. You can compare him to the rooster behind him which looks to have more appropriate characteristics of the breed. It is possible you have some strange genetic happenings going on but I think it is probably more likely there was an introduction of a brown egg layer at some point. If they were mine I would not use this rooster. I would also figure out which hens are laying brown eggs and remove them from my breeding stock.

LOL I was trying to figure out how to get the picture on here but couldn't. That works better! And yes, that is the one I was talking about.

x3 that guy stood out in the crowd

as Niclandia noted, the hens all look pretty typical
I was stunned to see how tan the eggs were, not even a hint of mint green...

btw - I really liked the barring on one of the roosters

as another point of discussion,
I noticed the more typical CLB roosters have mismatched hackle and saddle feathers, with gold in their wing triangle (the tell for gold not cream).
This odd guy out, has more closely matched gold hackle and saddle feathers...

Most pure breeds have matching hackles and saddle in their ideal standard for cocks and cockerels. Perhaps with an added copy of barring, properly lightening the darker areas by adding more visible barring and changing the dark gold to straw, this darker boy could show the alternative variety group what a golden Crele Legbar could look like if it matched. Mr. C had a great article a while back that discussed why the mismatch was occurring in so many birds. I'll see if I can find it.

Yes, I would be interested in seeing that article too. Where was it printed?
