Here are some pictures of comb growth for my 4 week old chicks. I had posted about them here before and was told that they were cockerels. The person I got them from still insisted they were pullets. I know not to use them for breeding since the auto sexing feature was so muted and am now just keeping my fingers crossed that they really are pullets and I'll at least get some pretty eggs from them. These combs have me worried though. Are combs this big and gaining color at 4 weeks another indication that they are males? If they are boys, I'm hoping I can pick up some real pullets at Chickenstock this weekend.

Feather pattern especially on the wings and back would be a better indicator. If you can get a full side view that would be good.

I have no eye liners on my new baby does that mean he is a boy?

I think I see a spot on head but hard to tell he is so new.

Your new chick looks male. Yes no eye liner is an indicator of male. But remember male chicks can also have eyeliner though not as distinct as female chicks.

4 weeks? that looks very female. brownish stippling on the wings is pretty much a give away and looking like salmon on the breast. Very poor autosexing

Hmmm that's a tough one...

Feather pattern as of now looks female but the comb looks male.

I want to say male and the barring will likely become more evident over time. Does it have barring on its back feathers? Also is chest feathers seem solid charcoal in the upper pics and the rusty salmon on the outer chest feathers, doesnt seem correct for either sex of this breed. Can you refresh our memory with some day old pics?
