Cream Legbars

I was wondering if anyone has any advice...my mama hen is taking great care of her chicks and they are now just over two weeks old. She has 11 males and 2 females. I have been weighing the CL chicks the last two weeks and the 2 girls are not gaining like the boys. I have watched them and the boys are more assertive and are the first to arrive when mama tells them about food etc. The girls are hanging back.

I am tempted to take them away from her and brood them myself in case they just are overwhelmed by the number of more assertive males. Think it is a good idea?

eta: I may take all 6 CL from her and leave her with the bigger, all male sexlinks.

I think your idea is a good one....brooding the CL your self will also have them more appreciative of humans.....

Thanks one of the little females is spraddle legged but is doing well. I have those baby hair tie rubber bands on her legs right now

I think your idea is a good one....brooding the CL your self will also have them more appreciative of humans.....

I do think I will bring all 6 in. With such a protective mama, weighing them each week has been a real chore. Then I can handle them and make sure the females are getting enough food. She will still have 7 strapping boys to look after.

I have been working on a chick proof outdoor pen this weekend so she can take them outside safely, hopefully by Monday they will be able to get out bit.
