Mine are Punnett lines.....
I was REALLY lucky that I got a yellow band male and a green band female that were hatched at GFF -- so that is the 'second wave' I kind of think -- The information about how they came in is on the Club's website....Paul Bradshaw was kind enough to write 'the History of the CL in the USA' for the club -- since he started it!!!!!
I don't think I want Rees 'blood' in my flock because as chicken pickin showed somewhere in CL posts here on BYC - those eggs tend to be greener...and I want bluer. (there is a photo of an egg carton - and timing wise I would guess it was about 2-months ago or so)---- When I cyber-interviewed Jill Rees - who has been a very gracious person BTW, she told me that in the UK they aren't quite as (what can I say - are we obsessive over egg color) -- Over there they don't put that as a priority. (The interview is in an old CL newsletter in the Clubhouse -- ) At that time her birds weren't imported yet...but perhaps the plans were in the offing - because it takes time to get these things done. I thought then that I would like some of hers - or her line in my flock for an across the pond solidarity-- but I never had room - and now I want to have THE bluest I can breed for -- so what it would take to eliminate that little tinge of more green, I don't know. I also prefer the more saturated CL. -- So I will move toward the goals with the stock I have out there.
Paul Bradshaw of Greenfire Farms is very supportive of the Club - has donated the proceeds from the first auction of Jill Rees birds in the US to the Cream Legbar Club---etc. besides, he is a really nice guy. Paul, however runs GFF as a buisness -- and the chickens he raises are for profit. Some of us have no need to make any profit from our chickens and have the luxury to just enjoy them and have them be pets. Some of us would love to make a profit - but realize that the livestock world is very very tricky to navigate..some of us (well not us on BYC) would do anything to make a buck -
But seriously - as losttexan says every one of us in the USA that owns a CL in all likelihood would trace it to GFF. Thanks Paul!
