Cream Legbars

One thing I do think it beneficial about people advertising what "lines" they came from is that right off the back you know if their birds will bring in any genetic diversity into your flock. For example, I wouldn't buy any more GFF birds because I already have those and I am personally not impressed with them lol

Like ChicKat points out; are there really any CCLs in the U.S. that don't trace from GFF? If not, how many generations go by before that quits being a notable fact? I mean, we don't all identify our birds as "Punnett" or "Pease" lines?

Mine are Punnett lines.....

I was REALLY lucky that I got a yellow band male and a green band female that were hatched at GFF -- so that is the 'second wave' I kind of think -- The information about how they came in is on the Club's website....Paul Bradshaw was kind enough to write 'the History of the CL in the USA' for the club -- since he started it!!!!!

I don't think I want Rees 'blood' in my flock because as chicken pickin showed somewhere in CL posts here on BYC - those eggs tend to be greener...and I want bluer. (there is a photo of an egg carton - and timing wise I would guess it was about 2-months ago or so)---- When I cyber-interviewed Jill Rees - who has been a very gracious person BTW, she told me that in the UK they aren't quite as (what can I say - are we obsessive over egg color) -- Over there they don't put that as a priority. (The interview is in an old CL newsletter in the Clubhouse -- ) At that time her birds weren't imported yet...but perhaps the plans were in the offing - because it takes time to get these things done. I thought then that I would like some of hers - or her line in my flock for an across the pond solidarity-- but I never had room - and now I want to have THE bluest I can breed for -- so what it would take to eliminate that little tinge of more green, I don't know. I also prefer the more saturated CL. -- So I will move toward the goals with the stock I have out there.

Paul Bradshaw of Greenfire Farms is very supportive of the Club - has donated the proceeds from the first auction of Jill Rees birds in the US to the Cream Legbar Club---etc. besides, he is a really nice guy. Paul, however runs GFF as a buisness -- and the chickens he raises are for profit. Some of us have no need to make any profit from our chickens and have the luxury to just enjoy them and have them be pets. Some of us would love to make a profit - but realize that the livestock world is very very tricky to navigate..some of us (well not us on BYC) would do anything to make a buck -

But seriously - as losttexan says every one of us in the USA that owns a CL in all likelihood would trace it to GFF. Thanks Paul!

Speaking of Egg Color, I took this picture of my broody hen and she had a nice blue egg showing under her, the lighting was right and the blue egg almost glows....

I am happy with my egg colors they are definitely a true blue. My EE hen lays a blue egg with a slight green tint. The chicks in the picture are mutts, as I just let my broodies sit on whatever. I incubate most of my blue eggs.

My original flock came from a gal in Montana, I didn't pay much attention to "breeder" because my intent was to breed them to my Marans for Olive Eggers. I have a friend that lives near and had Legbars and she spoke very highly of them. When I saw my new Legbars I fell madly in love with them, especially their type and color. (my flock has quite a bit of color in it) Yes, I had to get the "Color" dig in. :)

Currently about half of my hens came from FMP. They all lay blue eggs with no green, some of them are a deep sky blue and some are more like a "strong" blue tint.

That blue is just gorgeous IMO -- I do love it. too bad you don't have an OAC (online Auction chart) - because you could say which color swatch it looks near. I guess we all will have to settle for the araucana/ameraucana color charts in future...they cost about the same as one OAC did -- or we could shell out a lot of $$$ for a pantone chart.

anyway it is beautiful. I just may have to get hatching eggs from you some day--- as we develop various things in our flocks -- egg color - will come to the top for some of us. !!

In the picture that blue egg is so vibrant, very pretty. Do you have more pics of your blue Legbar eggs.
