I agree, and having a different color, but otherwise identical standard will broaden the gene pool so that future crosses can be made to re-invigorate inbred show lines, or correct faults not present in the other color's lines. If cream is a standard recessive, using gold birds to cross into a cream line will be easy (like Am breeders use black to help the lavender birds).

I agree also. But my reason is also because of their personality. The CL itself is a calm, curious bird who lays a very nice blue or slightly green egg. I wasn't planning on rehoming my golds, but you have showed me another reason to keep them around. ty.

I totally agree. I still insist they are the cats of the chicken world, but hey, I LIKE cats.

And my three girls do this "dawn chorus" thing that's as loud as the cockerel's crow - quite the back up singers, they are...

YAY! nice eggs.

princess Charlotte-Elizabeth-Diana's egg today was 1.894 oz..... she is improving - and only started on Oct 27th. The color on my phone ap was called "Boston Blue' -- and the phone app read it as red 30%, green 60%, blue 70% -- so in that reading her blue-light wave-lengths were really shimmering. -- It is hex #4d99b5 -- but when I go to color hex and bring it up -- her true egg is a tint of that one -- second from the right lightest which that app numbered as hex edf47f7.

I just love it when the app states a color of blue -- this time I didn't even bother to do any other readings......

She caught a small frog today - walked around with it dangling from her mouth for the longest time (including several games of successful keep-away with the cockerel) before figuring out how she wanted to eat it. More yummies to make eggs!!!!

My convertor tells me that's about 53g - that's pretty big! Paula's are almost all 50g so far. I also would love to know about the app (did I miss this?).
