Cream Legbars

I have a personal vet too! And one of my mom's best buddies just moved back from California ( boy was she glad to be back) who is a federal inspection vet too, for Ag. I'm sure I could manage the paperwork if needed. I get mostly free vet work. I think the state lab rolls their eyes a little bit when I bug em though.

Hi All.

Looking for thoughts and opinions on my Roo. He has a floppy comb but its very thick and huge. wondering if that is a genetic issue that it flops or just that its so big. Also, thoughts on his shape and coloring? Thanks.

The crest/comb issue is certainly a thing with cocks of this breed. Typically, when you have a nice, presentable crest, you have a crooked or even floppy comb. When the roos have straight combs, they oftentimes have little to no crest at all. Fi ding a happy balance can be difficult in cream Legbars in my experience. I like his coloring. He needs to learn to pick up his wings!

Thank you. He is only 6 months old. Is there a chance the color could change, the comb could straighten out or the wings are picked up or at 6 months he is who he is?

He will fill out until he's a year old, his tail will get fuller, his color might or might not change. His comb and wattles could change until he's a year old.

Here is a cockerel that I have been using as a good example of a visible crest and and a straight comb.

Here is the father of the cockerel above. He also had a visible crest and straight comb. The cockerel above had a mother with a very small comb.

Interesting. maybe I should breed mine with some of the hens that look like pea combs to get smaller and hopefully straighter roo comb.

Here is my hopefully pretty straight combed cockerel with a decent sized crest. He's rather gold, but conformation is more important and I'll keep a good colored one to run in another pen.

Balancing comb and crest is always a problem.

GaryDean to me, your rooster does not have enough crest. I have several like that but I want bigger crests.

The one bantam's daughter is holding is the kind of crest I want or larger.

Here's Eli, he's a bit of a ham I think. He snags titbits right out from under the boss rooster's beak, then dashes off before Jake can decide to do something about it.
