Cream Legbars

my guy has the same comb as the person who asked above. It was straight til it got big. He has a LOT of crest though, hard to see in this photo but he really has a lot

he was about 6 months or just under here , he is almost 7 months old now

I'm really liking that pullet with the light crest. You might have plenty of crooked hen combs looking at those; then again, you may not. Are they laying yet? Their combs look a bit small yet.

They started laying about 1 week ago. We are not going to incubate for at least 1-2 months and give the eggs a chance to get bigger. We also have 5 pullets with giant floppy combs. Going to have to get those separated so we don't incubate their eggs. None, including the roo, will let us touch or hold them so we leave them be, I'm taking it as they are a flock and not individuals so we give them their space.

I wont keep or hatch eggs from an unfriendly bird. That is my number one criteria. Others have different criteria but if I can't catch a bird and hold it without problems it goes

I have a guy with a comb that is about as straight as I've seen with the size of his massive crest. I mean, just look at the crest! It cascades like Fabio hair down his neck! If it weren't for his sad earlobes, he'd be pretty awesome. Should I keep him anyway?

I would keep and breed him this spring, then cross his off spring with the offspring from the ones you got from me, should help straighten the comb and whiten the lobes...With luck and fingers crossed.

Balancing comb and crest is always a problem.

GaryDean to me, your rooster does not have enough crest. I have several like that but I want bigger crests.

The one bantam's daughter is holding is the kind of crest I want or larger.
My first year with cream legbars I worked with three (3) Pullets from the GFF's "A" Flock, (1) cockerels from GFF's "B" flock and one (1) Cockerel from the GFF "C" flock. The birds from the A/B lines had crest feathers that laid neatly back. The "C" line birds had a lot of these "spikey" crest like Batambird's cockerel shows. The volume of feathers and length of feathers were not necessarily greater or longer on the spiky crest they just flared away from the head more. The pullets from the cockerels with the neat laid back crest would get large full crests. So the near laid back crest on the cockerel worked best for a single mating breeding strategy. Yes, the judges had said they want to see larger more obvious crest on the cockerels but I don't feel the spikey crests are as impressive as neat crest.

This cockerel has a ridiculous amount of crest compared to his brothers( that I have left this year) and to his dad, and even to ralphie's cockerels that I acquired. I thought mine were A/B line because I picked them up in 2013 from a line in Texas that no longer has them. I won an eBay bid from ewecrazy farms, but the eggs shipped from Texas, and I was told that a lady in Texas was fulfilling their orders. I could be wrong though, there could be C line and I wouldn't really know. These cockerels are from April. I also got a fabulous cockerel that I am going to let my daughter show this year, that I am very pleased with. Medium crest, straight comb, bright pearly white lobes, good stance and build, well tucked wings. He might have a bit of a high tail angle, but not terribly so.
