Before you get rid of your legbars, I'm gonna need some of those white sports sent my way!I am looking to breed smaller comb legbar roosters, As I recall the comb is only 4 points when they are judged.
However, if that does not happen and I do not get rid of the legbars,
I am looking at some of these from Amazon

What do you use to winter trim your birds? We use sharp scissors. Or do you just let nature take it's course and let them fall off? You're welcome, I am going to try one.
Here are some of my legbar combs. (NOT PRETTY)!
First is my rooster daddy from last year.
These are two from this year, One of these is Andy.
This was my show rooster. His waddles are worse than his comb, I had to move him inside again, He could not handle the outdoors, Had I not brought him back inside he would be dead.

I am on the fence with the legbars, The white ones I might keep, or some of them. I love the look of a white legbar.
BUT I should have some for sale this spring. If they ever decide to lay another egg.
I just let Mother Nature do her job. If they get too bad or the bird seems in too much pain I bring them inside the pole barn. It is not heated but I have a heat lamp in one area ( I know, I hope it never breaks or falls) and they can sit around it some. The bottom one is inside in that picture and looking way better. He was sitting in the same place with his head hung down for 2 days when I brought him in.
Being he was a show bird he is half tame and not as aggressive as the rooster that do not go to shows. I have no idea what I am going to do with him now. I like him, but his comb is too large for me to breed him and I have better tail sets on the other roosters I am using that compliment the hens better.. Anyone want a Legbar rooster with a winter trimmed comb and waddle?
Poor Andy![]()

Andy is the one with his back to us in the first picture. I decided to not show Andy because his crest disappeared with age. I am breeding him though hens with the Joan Jett look.
He has lost a lot of comb though. If I have them next year I plan to have an indoor cage for them. BUT I hate raising birds in cages. I really like huge pens and free ranging,
If I lived closer I would take him.I am on the fence with the legbars, The white ones I might keep, or some of them. I love the look of a white legbar.

Do CLB roos dance for their hens? I've read about that on other threads and didn't know if I should be upset that mine are ambush thugs.![]()
