Cream Legbars

ok everyone, I think it's been a month or so since I last posted pictures of these guys so I thought I'd post an update to show how they're coming along and see what you guys think.

Boy #1 (he has a weird thing going on with his hackles from an injury when he was a baby)

This is Dad to all 3 boys

Pullet #1 still rather young but I didn't post her picture last time

Pullet #2 She's the one that I did post last time, just a little more grown now. She looks slightly more gold in these pics than she typically does just because of the lighting in the coop.

Boy 1 is nice just needs time to fill out. I like his color and back looks long. I think he has potential,,,(see I can be nice, just shows you what I am looking for in mine,,,A judge could say I was crazy!)

Boy 2 is okay but I don't like all the red/orange/chestnut in him it extends into too many areas and his back line is too short, Has a nice breast and holds himself well. # 1 is better IMHO...

number 3 is interesting and I see why you kept hm to breed. Whoever you breed him too you made wise choices. He while having too much redetc,,, has a lot of nice traits, it would ne nice if he had a deeper/longer keel, he looks too V shape..but you covered that defect well, I think. The hackles are amazing.

I like everying I see in pullet 1..BUT you know I disagree on the large comb requirement on girls with the ones in the proposed SOP... and I know some on the board think like me on the comb issue....Young but potential.....

#2 pullet Beings I am trying to be nice, I can say she just does not do anything for me. I just don't think I would keep her. If other options are available. I see too many generations of work to get her where I would want her. the crest looks like Lyle Lovitt...

I love these because I get to read what others like and go look anb look t mine... I have also found a stranger looking at a perosn birds is a good thing. I think we tend to put too much emphasis on the ones with personalities we like. People not knowing our birds do not have that bias we have.

Oh boy,,, I love to talk about good and bad on these...

But I have gotten gun shy because some people say I am mean when I say these things...

So remember I am saying what I see when it is up against the SOPs.

It does not mean it is not a good bird. And if I say I would not breed it, I am thinking of it as breeding with mine of the opposite sex. I am not being mean...or trying too.

Judy on your rooster, is he a cockerel? He appears young.

I like the hackle feathers quantity and color. Length looks good to me.. The keel is too short, most likely age. The ear lobes are too red , the tail angle is good. I think i see red/chestnut in the saddle feathers is a probem. no crest that I can see, the head is moving though, it appears to have 5 points not six, not a deal killer. the main defect I see is the comb not straight and the black on the underbelly area..oh and the lack of a crest would be a disqualifier.
I am new to this group and am here to learn. Coming from a horse breeding and showing background.....I appreciate a no nonsense direct assessment of the animal I am asking "what do you think" so please don't be gun shy :)

I am new to it but I like his color.

I know this will sound strange but liking his color or not is not the issue it is how close does it come to the SOP.

Have you been to the cream legbar club website to read the current proposed SOPs?

I find myself pinning copies around my barn of them for the breeds I have and then changing the ones around in an order that gets closets to it....as of right now the legbar pullet cages are empty....

which is driving me crazy! nervous_businessman.jpg

@duluthralphie, thanks for looking over them. The Dad that I used was actualy all I could find when I lost my roo last year with no backup. He was just a free roo that someone had marked for butcher lol. He did pretty good for me I think. Now I just need to get some decent pullets. Would you believe that the combs that those going girls have are WAY smaller than the combs on my hens? Theirs are nuts!

Ok what I meant after reading and re- reading the proposed SOP and sitting and starring at pictures of CCL....and pictures from shows.....I like your Roosters color. I don't have an opinion on his body but did wonder if his tail was straight. And I am a member of the Cream Legbar Club...just love these birds and trying to learn as much as I can.

Well thank you for your opinion. He is young same age as the female I hatched them out together. Early April. I ended up with two males and two females. The other female seems to be mixed though.
I have not really thought about showing him, but if I did, I am thinking after his first molt things could change as far as the Chestnut coloring.
I am surely not offended by your opinion, since I would think you are more experienced with CCl birds.
So thank you
