Creating Crele Colored Chickens

Pics
Thanks for posting pics of your eggs. Are you able to sex eggs by egg shape? I´ve heard people can do it, they say the pointer eggs are males and the rounder eggs are females, any input on that?
LOL. Ya, old wives tale with no truth to it.
If it was true hatcheries wouldn't be wasting about 50% of their incubators space with pointy eggs.

Recently this has been the case for studies one of these studies is A morphometric method of sexing white layer eggs http://www.scielo.br/scielo.php?script=sci_arttext&pid=S1516-635X2013000300006

I've been thinking about a method of testing this method reliably with white leghorn lines. Crossing a Silkie rooster with White Leghorns, hatch the eggs based on shape and see what is the actual percentage of hatched females(this specific cross makes it easy to sex them the moment they hatch)

I'm still learning to, and doing a little experimenting with crossbreeding to see what happens. What crossbred chickens have you made?
So far, no crossbreds. We have two "rescue pets" - a Silkie (Herman the House Rooster) and an OEGB cockerel. We also have just one show-pair of Porcelain D-Uccles, but our main focus is Nankin Bantams. They're really cool little birds, but they were almost "lost" forever! They're starting to recover a bit, but they're still listed as "critically endangered," so we are maintaining - and hopefully improving - our line. So far, our little flock has doubled from the original ten and we've shared a few potential breeding pairs with some other 4H families. I'm really anxious for the laying season to start up again in earnest - it's been a horrific winter here for ice and cold - so we can get "back to work." So far, so good!

Okay, well I wish I can help too, but I don't have any Nankin chickens.

I need a little help. My incubator's temp is refusing to rise above 97.2°F, any ideas?
Can you wrap it? Or maybe set it inside an open box. That helped mine, last winter. I added an old blanket to the bottom and lower sides, for insulation. There was an article here on BYC, recently, where the author built an insulated wooden box just big enough to hold the incubator. If it's a small 'bator, you could get a similar effect by setting it inside an open cooler. Either a Styrofoam or plastic Igloo-type would likely work. Good luck!
